  • XP isn't going anywhere because corporate environments are NOT adopting Vista PERIOD. I teach networking OS classes and we are still planning on focusing on XP and NOT Vista for at least another year.

That said, I'm very happy with Vista on my home PC. And I can echo Tom that it works really well for multi-user homes, based on feedback from my parents.

        • I too do not believe XP is going anywhere, I think technology is advancing at an extremely rapid pace and VISTA is the next generation of "got to have it" reguarding computers.

          Thanks for the input.

          • I've heard in more than a few places that companies are holding out hope that they can stretch out with XP until something other than Vista comes along. I've been two years removed from the Windows world but I remember when we were benchmarking Longhorn and then Vista it was for the 64 bit capability and the OS was too buggy to be relied on for that.

But the 64 bit OS was needed for a fraction of corporate stuff. They pretty much had to keep around Sun boxes and HP boxes for the high performance application designing they needed. Plus any migration to a new Windows OS is a nightmare. Going from XP SP1 to SP2 was a nightmare.

            • Our company (organization wide it has about 400 employees) has no intention of moving away from XP anytime soon. The thought is not even in our projected 2 year time plan.

              • vista is a turd. Bloatware at its finest that forced an upgrade to newer hardware with little or no real justification. Microsoft tried to emulate mac and failed.

                • Well, I finally decided on what phone I was going to get with my upgrade. I went for a BlackBerry Curve 8310, Titanium color. It mainly had very high reviews all over the web that I looked for. I like the QWERTY keyboard, the size, shape of it, and most of all, the price. I got it for free from AT&T as part of my upgrade package. Should have the phone by the end of the week, I'm excited.

                  • How much does the internet/email capability run a month if you don't mind me asking?

                    • There's a bundle package I got, unlimited data and unlimited messaging for $50. Its kind of funny, because my actual phone call plan is only $39.99 a month, so I'm going to actually be spending more for the non-phone call stuff than the actual phone calls.

                      • I got Vista and really haven't noticed much of a difference from XP. There both about the same. however my laptop does click things every once in a while that i didn't click. Maybe that is Vista?

Frank, did you just say you paid $50 a month to stay connected to your e-mail and punch out messages on a tiny keyboard - while you're paying $40 for phone service?

The only thing missing from that Marvin Jones touchdown reversal is that it wasn't a first round playoff game.

                          • I am interested in a wifi phone that will work on wireless network at work/home and then switch to cell phone when wireless is not available. I am currently waiting to test one from Avaya who is our phone system provider at work and then would like to try one from Virizon, my personal cell phone provider.

I can get a blackberry from work, but I am not convinced that I want one or can justifiy the cost. Afterall I don't want to just waste your tax dollars!

I know that T-Mobile does that. It's called T-Mobile HotSpot @Home. They sell Blackberries that work with it. It's nice because it uses not only your home WiFi, but any of the 8000+ T-Mobile HotSpots around the country.
