    • I'm kind of a gadget geek, as some of you may know. Anyways, I was at bible study a couple weeks ago and one of the guys there had this awesome looking thing that had his entire bible on it. I was intrigued and wondered how I had avoided getting one of those things so far.

      So I bought one.

It's the iPod Touch and it rocks. I know JB (before he left) was touting it. Anyone else have one? Is the iPhone the same thing, cept with phone capability? I love the wifi connection and just being able to pick it up and look at headlines or weather whenever I want.

I'm amazed at all of the apps out there for this, but searching for them is hard. iTunes is ridiculously awful, IMO. Anyone got some Touch/iPhone application recommendations??

I can't remember does the Touch have GPS built in. If it does look for Flixter. It will find you movie times for any movie theater in you area. Its still good if it doesn't have GPS, you can select the theaters really easily.

Froot, do you have the the rectangular shaped one (301, I think)

That's the one I used. I can't see the numbers on the smaller unit...

            • Its the 201. Yes its a big rectangle. Its cool but I don't think I will use it all the time, maybe if i go biking or if I'm plotting out new courses. I'm attached to the Ironman watch.

              • Is the 201 just the HR monitor or just the GPS?

I really like the monitor and GPS being in the same unit. When I was training "seriously" it was a great tool.

                • Just GPS as far as I can tell. It would be nice to have heart rate monitor for LSR's .

                  • The 301 has the monitor and GPS as does the 305. The 305 is supposed pick up the sattelites better and looks like a normal wristwatch, but I can't see the little numbers (and it is quite bit more pricey)

I having surgery on my heel in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to run again in a few months...

                      • It sounds like you should get lasik along with heel surgery. The latest one is the 405, in Runners World the price was listed at $350.

Ha! I did (PRK actually). That's why I can't see the little numbers. When they changed the focal point, I gained my far vision but lost my near vision. I'm crippled now without my reading glasses...

                          I think the 301 runs about $200.

Thanks! No GPS needed for movie theaters in my area since there's only one theater for fifty miles here...lol.

I did look up the answer to that question, though, and found that no the Touch doesn't have GPS. Closest it gets is Google Maps.

Deb. I had the touch and loved it so much I just got the iPhone being tied to wifi was just too bothersome after a bit. The touch is just like the phone without the 3g phone or gps.

It's great to surf the web or watch downloaded tv/movie programs.

Anyway I'm sure you'll love it. (btw gizmodo reviews iPod apps pretty frequently. You might want to check there.)

                              • Thanks, Slif!

I use a cell phone so rarely that buying the iPhone and paying for a plan for it would be a waste of money for me (I have Alltel/Verizon prepaid and spend less than $100 a year for my service). Also, I'm not so sure AT&T's network is all that great up here in BFE. Up until a year ago, AT&T wireless wasn't even available here.

                                Thanks for the gizmodo tip!
