  • I used Firefox on the old computer when IE became unusable due to pop-ups and adware. It was slow but definately usable. Nobody else in the house gets to touch my computer (it's about 3 years old now), and although I'm having video issues (occasionally freezing me up) it works better than any other in the house.

    • Just installed Firefox. Learning to use it. Keeps telling me of new add ons daily. Hell, I don't even know what they mean.

      • I've been using Firefox, and I like it, the only issue I ever have with it is... I like to play Pool on Yahoo sometimes, and whenever I play on Firefox, when I leave a table, it freezes up Firefox. So I've been playing pool on IE and surfing elsewhere on Firefox.

          I'm not to blame.

If so, please try Firefox. I used to have all the problems you're having, until I switched to Firefox 4 years ago. No problems since.
I have been using Firefox for about as long. I like it with the exception that when I download docs or videos, they can not be run directly from the download, they have to be saved to disc then opened from the disc.

            An inconvenience but not insurmountable.

I will have to explore some of the extra downloads ULF has outlined.

            • Thanks ULF, I used Firefox a while back it was ok but nothing special, but some of the add ons you highlighted make it seem more attractive. I might try it at work first (I have a Mac and use Opera) then try at home.

              • There's a ton of extensions Dean, you can customize it to do just about anything you can think of. Tab mix plus is my favorite.

Regarding performance, I've never known Firefox to be slow. Maybe it's just if you don't have much RAM - all of my PCs have at least a gig - so I've always found Firefox to be quite fast. And, they say version 3.0 has fixed the memory issues of 2.x (if you have any)
The only thing missing from that Marvin Jones touchdown reversal is that it wasn't a first round playoff game.

I run firefox and never encountered that. I usally get a little pop up window with the download and I just click "open" and.......

                    Mark,

Your issue is easily fixed in your settings - see here.

Mine always asks whether I want to download a video or play it. I think that's the default setting. At some point, someone told it to "save file" and checked the "do this automatically from now on" box, probably.

Anything that you'd like to customize about Firefox, just type a few key phrases and the word "firefox" into Google and you'll probably find an extension that customizes it to do what you want.

Like mine, yours is set to "always ask" for the file type in question.

                      • FF3 is significantly faster than 2, although you can speed up 2 with addons like fasterfox. The 'awesomebar' is a real killer for me, though - enough to make me downgrade back to 2 if not some other browser.

Funny, I'm always surprised when I hear someone is using IE. I guess it's just who I know

                          • There are two that I know of but neither complete remove the 'awesomeness.' I even went so far as to try out Safari but I've become dependent on FF's type ahead find and Safari doesn't do it. If I had time I'd fork FF...

                            • I use IE at work, Firefox at home. Although at work I pretty much need to use both when I have A VPN running.

                              • I have a pc with IE 6.0 (primary work system), laptop with IE8, home system IE7, and a mini-note with Firefox.

You know what,,,, I can't notice a damn difference.
