Please support the Forum by using the Amazon Link this Holiday Season
Amazon has started their Black Friday sales and there are some great deals to be had! As you shop this holiday season, please consider using the forum's Amazon.com link (listed in the menu as "Amazon Link") to add items to your cart and purchase them. The forum gets a small commission from every item sold.
Additionally, the forum gets a "bounty" for various offers at Amazon.com. For instance, if you sign up for a 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, the forum will earn $3. Same if you buy a Prime membership for someone else as a gift! Trying out or purchasing an Audible membership will earn the forum a few bucks. And creating an Amazon Business account will send a $15 commission our way.
If you have an Amazon Echo, you need a free trial of Amazon Music!! We will earn $3 and it's free to you!
Your personal information is completely private, I only get a list of items that were ordered/shipped via the link, no names or locations or anything. This does not cost you anything extra and it helps offset the operating costs of this forum, which include our hosting fees and the yearly registration and licensing fees.
Stay safe and well and thank you for your participation in the Forum and for your support!! --Deborah

I built a dual boot hackintosh.
I'm pretty close to buying a commodity laptop and creating a multi-boot hackintosh machine (son wants to write ipod/iphone apps). Any advice other than the FAQ on the osx86 site?

I had a lengthly conversation with a retired intel engineer, from then on all I ever use or buy is AMD processors. The biggest part of it. He told me how if they failed quality control tests they they would just downgrade the chip say a 2.0 ghz was only testing out to a 1.5 then they would just mark it as a 1.5ghz. Never ever did they scrap a run or repair them. So basically what ever you buy from intel (unless it's the newest lastest top of line) more then likely your buying one that failed quality tests.I'm not to blame.

Well I think I have some nasty malware. I continued to receive the popups after disabling all startup apps so I used the Trend Micro housecall service. Ran it once and all it came up with was cookies but said to run again so I did and it came up with MAL-HIFRM-2 which it removed. Ran it a third time and came up clean. No pop ups for awhile then they returned. Ran housecall again and got same results - only cookies first time then got the MAL-HIFRM-2 on the second run. Deleted it. Went a long time with no pop ups but they just returned. Holy crap why won't this thing go away?!
Btw, I went to the Real Player forums and this has happened to another person but no one paid the poster any attention other than one person who said it was probably something they did and not Real Player. I haven't found much on the net about it.
I find it disappointing that with all the protection I have stuff like this can still get through."And I'm a million different people from one day to the next..."

I use McAfee for antivirus and firewall and use Lavasoft's free adware which I used to run every week but had gotten remiss and it found a Trojan the last time I ran it. Why doesn't McAfee catch this stuff?"And I'm a million different people from one day to the next..."

I had issue with my laptop After loaning it out. I spent close to 30 hours trying to get back working properly. I finally gave up and just reformated. took about 3 hrs total (reloading other stuff too) and it's working great now.
Anything you want saved just burn it a disk beforehand then reload it.
I did each program I wanted to keep on a separte disk and re loaded them one at a time just to be sure it wasn't something wormed into one of my other programs that was messing it up.I'm not to blame.

I remember you said your daughter really screwed up your laptop. I was surprised over how much damage one person could do.
I've deleted the malware 3 times now and I think it may be back already. Fer crissake. I wish I could make it go away permanently. I don't like the prospect of having to reformat as I've never done that before."And I'm a million different people from one day to the next..."
