    • dpatnod - if needed I would use the built in Windows one, however most routers include them, so software firewalls are redundant.

I'm a dork, though, with way too much RAM and I don't watch porn, so maybe I'm not a good comparison. ;)

        • Picked up one of these:
          http://liliputing.com/2014/10/zotac-...pc-review.html

I've got it hooked to my office PC, which is out here in living room exile while we redo the office, and using it to keep up on the game day thread while studying on my main PC. The thing works surprisingly well for what it is, which is basically a tablet PC pretending to be a desktop.

          • Reminds me of the Intel NUC. I would seriously consider that for my HTPC needs but need more horsepower for blu ray playback. Lower powered systems simply can't handle it with full surround DTS.

            • When I first read that, Coop, I thought you meant you wanted more horsepower to make the disc spin faster.

              • it sure does....

I at some point need to test the Intel HD4000 chipset built into my latest HTPC rebuild, which integrates power with the CPU but haven't yet done so.

                • I should look into doing a HTPC as well. Maybe when I upgrade my main pc I can recycle the old stuff to put into one.

                  • it is not so much recycling the old - just gauge what you really need for it. If you aren't doing blu ray for example, low end stuff works just fine.

                    • I have a decent blu-ray player I got last year for Christmas. It can do 3D and all that if I ever get a tv (or projector) that supports it.

I thought of that but didn't want the fan noise that a desktop PC would make. For the living room I built a HTPC from a Foxconn barebones PC. Not the best but it gets the job done.

                        • How much did it cost you to build your HTPC, Coop?
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

                          • Initial cost was $700 in 2010. I went with a bit higher end build. Last spring I did a refresh of core components - motherboard, processor, ram, power supply @ $450. IMO entirely worth it. Re use of case and optical drive. I did have to replace a sound card along the way, so add $50.

                                Bordering unbelievable really.

The world is strange. While the Davidsons Mains traffic lights in Edinburgh were broken, causing fking absolute rush hour mayhem......., a man made spaceship was landing on a comet going at 34K miles an hour, 300 million miles away.

GET THE FKN TRAFFIC LIGHTS FIXED.
