  • Moment of Geek, from last week. Very funny stuff.

Incidentally, I also emit a subsonic boom when I'm ready to mate.

        • I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) yesterday. I did the upgrade and it went very smoothly. The only compatibility issue I had, which the installer told me about beforehand, was iTunes. I had to deauthorize the PC, uninstall iTunes, then do the upgrade and reinstall it. No biggie.

I'm very happy to see my antivirus and the rest of my programs all work without needing an upgrade.

          • Interesting. I am running Vista Ultimate 64 on my desktop. I thought about upgrading but was concerned about my scanner. I will have to see what the vendor says.

            • I have a Lide 70 Canon scanner and the manufacturer does not list a Windows 7 driver. However, I would imagine I would be ok with the same driver that is working for Vista.

              • Yeah, I'd guess the Vista driver would work or that Canon will issue a Win 7 driver as soon as Win 7 is released this week.

My work is just now making an upgrade from XP (it seems we just made the switch from 2000), with a few Vista machines trickling in. I just got mine a couple of months ago. The only thing that's goofy is I can't print 2-sided so the page flips up on our HP printer. The other thing is MS made Cisco's VPN function incompatible with Vista. That's where you can travel with your work laptop and log into the home LAN. I think MS wants the potential money from that for themselves.

                  • I think you're giving MS too much credit. Your Cisco client likely just needs an update.

                    • Yeah you need a new Cisco VPN, I just got my new work laptop and luckily they gave a boot dvd to install Vista or XP, I had to re-image it with the XP image so the Cisco VPN would work.

                      • Drew - I believe versions 5.0.04 and above will work with Vista. Although I have finally eliminated Vista from my production network, the main issue I experienced with Vista and The Cisco client was that the virtual network would not enable and connection attempts would fail. I could (inconsistently) enable the virtual network adapter, then successfully connect.

Version 5.0.05 was running on two HP laptops running Vista that I downgraded to XP

                        • Will the new version work with Vista and XP machines at the same time?

                            • As far as scanners go 7 will use "generic" drivers with less functionality if your hardware doesn' a have a driver yet it knows what it is.

Better support natively than previous updates for scanners.

Only problem we have with 7 in the enterprise is the lack of R2 2008 servers to support the new functionaility in the enterprise.

We are going to have to wait until 2Q 2010 so 7 is fully released, 2008 R2 is adopted, 2010 Exchange, 2010 Sharepoint and 2010 office.

Will be a busy year next year.
