    • Ok, one of my co-workers pulled this off...but I imagine I was doing something wrong here.

I recently got my employee air card from Sprint, and I'm looking to plug it into my desktop and basically run it through that and into my wireless router to share the connection with the two laptops in the house.

I was up till 2:30 am trying to figure this out, I got the router to see the internet connection but either A. could not figure out how to make it share the connection or B. get the laptop to connect to it properly.

I figure there were some network settings on the router that were keeping me from completing the path so to speak. Anyone in here been there, done that? or at least know the correct steps to take to accomplish internet connection sharing with an aircard and wireless router?

      • I am a long way from being able to be called a computer wiz but have experienced similar problems when both of the boys got laptops. Problem was that each laptop needs to get clearence from the router. They could see the connection from their laptops but until we accessed the router with the password, they were denied the signal.

        • the passwords were all correct, when it shows my connection path there's a big red X between the router and the internet.

I'm wondering if this is some sort of "handshake" issue between vista on the laptop and XP on the desktop sharing the connection

                <sigh>

I'm waiting to see if it can be saved. I'm prepared for the worst.

And no, I never ever backed it up.

Yes, I can be an idiot about some things.
BSOD and getting the files off your HDD are not related.

If your system board is toast or memory or the chipset or the etc your hard drive and the contents are most likely A-OK.

very rarely do you get a BSOD with dead HDD.

For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than to Google it for themselves.

                  • my router lacks a usb port...we actually sell a cradlepoint router at work that i can just plug the card into, but its $250. I'm trying to get this done with the equipment I have otherwise I'll just spend the $100 for the wifi hotspot we have.

                    • sheesh I thought might help and be sarcastic at the same time.

#1. What do you have for equipment all of it, do you have a wifi router or ap or nothing.

#2. Did you tell vista the connection was a WORK connection and not a PUBLIC connection?

                        • Tech geek did not get BSOD with my computer but did remove a virus. He said it could be hardware but I only have a modem and speakers and keyboard and mouse. I guess when I get it back and plug it in I'll know. He's tweaking a few things and I hope to have it back for the weekend. Wouldn't want to miss watching the Lions on a shitty feed and posting with you people. ;)

Best Tip I can give as a tech, always wait till the second error before worrying about it. Some times its just a single hiccup in windows. I wouldn't put much thought into it unless it happens multiple times doing the same thing.

                              • It did. It happened 3 times in a row. But thanks for the tip. I need all the help I can get with tech stuff.
