  • I’m always leery of QBs that come from powerhouse schools. When all of the surrounding talent is top tier and you’re facing lesser talent, it’s not a true representation of what they’ll see in the NFL.

    • It's hard to be bullish on the Bengals playoff chances when they haven't played a divisional game yet. Their schedule is not that tough but they've already lost to the Patriots and the Commanders. Their saving grace is the 7th seed should be up for grabs. There are a lot of cross offs in the AFC

      • Right now, the Bungles are asking Joe Burrow to carry the offense similar to Josh Allen in Buffalo (it's not quite the same because Burrow has a few more weapons on offense)... but without the defensive support Josh Allen has in Buffalo. If you're giving up 38 points at home when you're already 0-2, that's not a very good sign.

Their saving grace is that I'm not sure the AFC North is all that right now. Pittsburgh feels like a paper tiger. At some point, Fields is gonna Fields (or Wilson is gonna Wilson), and that defense isn't going to be able to carry them over the hump. Baltimore is kinda in the same place Cinci is. And Cleveland is... well... Cleveland.

        • The way I look at the Steelers is they have been a 9 win team with worse quarterbacks than Fields. So far their defense is elite and they are comfortable winning games like Matt Schottenheimer. They are heading towards 10 wins.

          • I'd disagree somewhat. Fields at his worst is every bit as bad as any QB the Steelers have run out there.

But yes, 10-11 wins sounds about right for the Steelers right now.

            • He is much better than Kenny Pickett. That dude was rotten.

              • Steelers have the luxury to just use Fields in a limited way and ask him to just not fuck up majorly. The Bears needed him to be the franchise savior (or wanted him to be) given draft position and the capital they gave up to get him (not to mention the weight of all those Bears QB failures).

I think the Bears gave up on him too soon and am glad he is out of the conference and especially out of the division

I also think that down the road he is going to be one of the better qbs in the league

                  • For now he has completed 73 percent and has a QB rating of 95. The way the Steelers play, they are pretty good squeezing out ugly wins. They are the Iowa of pro football.

The second half hasn't been much better.

Yeah, those are a couple of pretty mediocre teams.

                          • They were trying to talk up the Cowboys defense on the broadcast at the end of the game but they failed to mention that the Giants don’t have a great offense.

Possibly, but they had a decision to make on his $25M player option (Steelers did not pick it up either). And the NFL coaches at large don’t seem to hold him in high regard. Even the Steelers didn’t seem to really think too much of him and were expected to start Wilson.

I think whatever trajectory he’s on might be a long one. He’d be smart to stick with the Steelers because they tend to be one of the most patient franchises out there.
