Bolton and Samuel were actually a couple of guys that were talked about consistently as options for the Lions 2nd rounder around here at draft time. Samuel in particular had some really strong supporters.

I think JOK was the most obvious at the time and the Browns look smart for drafting him. That said, there’s a lot of unpredictability to it when it comes to injuries. JOK had the red flag that made him fall.
Something good about Brad Holmes is he is actually hitting on some day 3 picks to make up for it. St. Brown playing like a day 1 talent. Rodrigo playing like a day 2 talent.
But yes… Lions and these second/ 2nd picks. Unlucky except for a few (… Slay). I saw a Lions fan say they should start trading their 2nd RD picks for two 3rd RD picks going forward. That comment was clever and made me laugh.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

Lions 2nd or second draft picks since 2004 (my first year as a fan). Defining “second” as when the Lions had a second 1st RD pick. Very frustrating as a fan…..
2022 - 1st. Jameson Williams. TBD. Recovering from torn ACL.
2022 - 2nd. Josh Paschal. TBD. Recovering from hernia surgery.
2021 - 2nd. Levi Onwuzurike. Trending towards bust. Back issues.
2020 - 2nd. D’Andre Swift. Mixed. Good when healthy, but too injury prone.
2019 - 2nd. Jahlani Tavai. Bust. Lol.
2018 - 2nd. Kerryon Johnson. Bust. Injuries.
2017 - 2nd. Teez Tabor. Bust. Couldn’t play and injuries.
2016 - 2nd. A’Shawn Robinson. Mixed. Ok starter. Playing well with Rams though!
2015 - 2nd. Ameer Abdullah. Bust. Injuries.
2014 - 2nd. Kyle Van Noy. Bust. Bust with Lions, but played well else where.
2013 - 2nd. Darius Slay. Hit. Huge hit. Why’d the Lions trade him?! 😭
2012 - 2nd. Ryan Broyles. Bust. Injuries. Second torn ACL injury as a rookie…
2011 - 2nd. Titus Young. Bust. Mental health, unfortunately.
2011 - 2nd Mikel Leshoure. Bust. Injuries/ torn achilles in rookie training camp…
2010 - 1st. Jahvid Best. Bust. Injuries/ concussions.
2009 - 1st. Brandon Pettigrew. Mixed. Solid early on… several injuries caught up.
2009 - 2nd. Louis Delmas. Mixed. Solid at times. Injury prone.
2008 - 2nd. Jordan Dizon. Bust. Couldn’t play/ poor production. Suffered a bad injury.
2007 - 2nd. Drew Stanton. Bust. Did nothing for the Lions, but good backup career.
2007 - 2nd. Ikaika Alama-Francis. Bust. Couldn’t play/ poor production.
2007 2nd. Gerald Alexander. Bust. Couldn’t play/ poor production.
2006 2nd. Daniel Bullocks. Bust. Couldn’t play/ poor production.
2005. 2nd. Shaun Cody. Bust. Couldn’t play/ poor production.
2004. 1st. Kevin Jones. Bust. Great rookie season, then injuries….
2004. 2nd. Teddy Lehman. Bust. Couldn’t play/ poor production.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

2018 - 2nd. Kerryon Johnson. Bust. Injuries. Since the average NFL career of RBs is 3 years, I don't consider Kerryon as being a bust. He just didn't have a longer then average career.
2016 - 2nd. A’Shawn Robinson. Mixed. Ok starter. Playing well with Rams though! Always was better then people gave him credit for. A champion who has played well IMHO. Exactly what you want from a 2nd rounder. The team chose not to pay him. Not his fault.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Just looking at that list, not even a lot of guys I was happy about at the time they took took them: Off the top of my head - Swift (wasn't a huge fan, but thought he was a good value), A'shawn (good value), Van Noy (probably my favorite pick on the list, was super excited they picked him), Slay (i recall preferring other CBs, but you understood the athletic talent), Alexander (gamble on big hitting athlete that I liked. whoops), Lehman (seemed like a good new age coverage backer).

Eh, I think you'd find most teams' second round chart would look fairly similar to the Lions. The Lions are certainly more awful at finding second round gems, but I think you'd struggle to find any team that would look much better than finding a spare gem in a pile of pig shit. For good or for ill, there tend to be two types of players that are picked in the second round;
1) Projected first rounders that dropped for whatever reason (injury or poor interviews being most common).
2) Projected third-fourth rounders deemed "safe" from the issues found in (1).
Fact is, talent tends to drop off a cliff around the mid to late first round. So you find yourself either gambling on a talent in free fall (and those talents are usually in free fall for a reason), or you're looking for someone with a less than optimal portfolio that you think might be able to blow up at the next level.
The odds for either... simply aren't all that high. You'll find a lot of "Who?" and "What happened to that guy?" when you go through the second round of any given draft.

Speaking of all of the other games...
The Chargers lost to the Chefs last night. The Chargers were dominating the game until Herbert threw a 96 yard pick six that completely turned the game around.
If that was Stafford the He Man Stafford Haters club would have lost their collective mutha fucking minds
I wonder if there is He Man Herbert Haters club in LA? Ha!I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

Lehman was ok for a while. Just never took that step to be good and eventually the league realized it.
I also disagree on Pettigrew. I fucking hated him on this team. He played him far more than we should have so his numbers look ok, but the guy shouldn't have not even have been on the practice squad.
