Ford Field is smaller in seating capacity, but it is somewhat cavernous. The Silverdome's roof reflected all the sound down. Ford Field's asymmetrical design probably puts it as a disadvantage compared to the Dome.
I think it is a design thing. The fans blew the roof off of the Silverdome when the Lions had a decent team. Even when Ford Field is loud, it is not earth shattering loud. I doubt it will ever be thought of as one of the tougher places to play.
There was a period that the NFL instituted a stupid-assed rule to penalize (delay of game) the home team if it was too loud for the visitors to get a play off. It was a stupid rule and didn't last very long. This video is from that time
I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on
It's been around 20 years and I've never seen it get anywhere near as loud as the Dome.
The dome was loud as shit but they also had playoff teams from time to time.
