And that’s saying something with that guy. Sometimes it feels like Florio farms out his articles to unpaid interns that don’t actually follow football.
Why on Earth was Jeff Okudah the #3 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft?
That bit of Bob Quinn/Matt Patricia stupidity alone justified both of them being fired 2 days after the 2020 Thanksgiving Day beatdown by the Houston Texans.
Texans immediately benched Okudah after giving up that big TD. Though maybe he went back in after the game was basically over. Not sure.
As for Okudah being the #3 overall pick… it made some sense considering the available players and his draft profile at the time. Joe Burrow and Chase Young were believed to be the clear top 2 prospects. Then there was a perceived drop off after that. Most Lions fans were hoping for a trade down more than ever, but it obviously didn’t materialize. Jeff Okudah, Derrick Brown Jr., and Isaiah Simmons were the heavily debated draft prospects for #3. There was also a draft day rumor that Quinn wanted Okudah and Patricia wanted Brown Jr. … oops.
Buckeyes fans will tell you that 2019 was a legit shot to win the championship. They had some rough calls in the game vs Clemson. Okudah benefited by being on that awesome defense. Maybe the pass rush helped hide Okudah’s issues? He did seem well rounded at everything.
Brings me to my last thought about a torn achilles injury. How many NFL CBs suffer that specific injury? 5%? 10%? Less than that or something. Maybe it’s just something that a CB can’t comeback from. Not being the same type of player post injury due to losing athleticism. It’s like they become damaged goods. Very unlucky. Luck is a big factor in sports drafts.

And I'm 99% sure it was only a 54 yard Fg so the intern got that wrong.

It does feel like there such a rush for content that the quality is secondary now. My news feed is full of articles talking about how “the Lions are predicted to go after random-big-name-expensive-player next off season”, as if they haven’t seen Brad Holmes operate over the last few years.
I read an article the morning about how Ben Johnson is working with a collection of “castoffs and throwaways”?
I also read in a preview for the Houston game (I think), that the way to attack the Lions Defense was to run at them and FORCE them to keep Anzalone on the field.
I don’t remember ever seeing so many out of left field takes in the past

"This is an empty signature. Because apparently carrying a quote from anyone in this space means you are obsessed with that person. "
If someone is saying you beat the Lions is to run at them, you can safely assume they don't watch the Lions and are just looking at stats. Their rushing defense stats were middle of the pack going into the Texans game but at no time did anybody ever really take it to the Lions running the ball. Most of the time when you are up a couple of touchdowns the Lions will let you run the ball.
The funny thing about the Texans game was when they reported that Joe Mixon slammed his helmet, I said, "What's he mad about? He actually had a rushing TD."
Also forcing them to keep Anzalone on the field is a hoot. He regularly plays 90+ percent of the snaps
