As long as we take care of our business with our overall schedule - especially in the NFC, we'll be fine.

It's when the Playoffs start is when we have to really get the job done.

The Eagles have to face the Rams and Ravens coming up. Stafford may be able to make something happen but go have to count on Lamar to give the Eagles an L

I would say the kicker missing 7 points qualifies as a big mistake.

The more I see running qbs breaking contain and picking up easy chunk plays - I get why det values contain over sacks.

Tough to stop Hurts and Barkley though. That is an enigma for Glenn.

                • The problem is that a lot of these "dual threat" QBs are reaching the point where they are just as dangerous in the pocket as they are in open space.

So, you have to be able to do more than just pressure. You have to be able to FINISH those pressures, either with a sack or a pass defense.

The Lions, until Hutch was injured, could reliably do either. Right now, they have to lean on their secondary to finish the job.

Good thing; they've been up to the job so far.

                  • Interesting to see what Smith brings. I think its a big signing because it will bring a threat off the edge.

Right now it is Pascal/Levi - power and Houston - speed

behind the line Lions getting back Melifonwu and JRM can add some juice/closing speed as well.

                    • The Lions had 4 sacks and something like a 50 percent pressure rate last week

                      • I noticed that Washington lost contain quite a bit last night.

Lack of discipline by the edge rushers really hurt them. So far, even with the injuries, the Lions have done a much better job of keeping QBs contained.

Washington is pretty good and may catch lightening in a bottle, but they are a couple of years away from being serious contenders.

                        • Supposedly Daniels is banged up. Regardless of how their season ends, it’s been a positive year 1. Maybe winning like this a year too early.

Why do Eagles fans/ their organization feel like they’re entitled to be a team that makes a playoff run on an annual basis? Hypothetically saying Nick Sirianni gets fired despite a recent Super Bowl appearance and 41-19 record (etc) if they don’t make a playoff run this season? That kind of entitlement in the NFL is so dumb and oblivious. It’s one NFL team where I wouldn’t feel bad if they went through a similar losing drought as our Lions, the Jets, or the Browns. Argh! Yet it’s blasphemy to fire Jim Caldwell after being stuck in mediocre land.

I’m not afraid of the Eagles. 2023 49ers were a MUCH spookier obstacle. Really, the only obstacle the Lions might have is themselves this season. A random slump or worse injury news in the future. Such as the Raiders best season in recent memory and losing Derek Carr to a season ending injury during the late part of the regular season.
Having the #1 seed and making any team win at Ford Field would be ideal. While the Lions can win gritty in the cold with their monster RB room + OLine, I would rather keep the playoff run indoors.

To be fair . . . . Houston’s O-line has sucked a lot this year when it comes to pass blocking.

Yeah, that's why I was pretty confident going into that game, but in the pregame one of the talking heads talked about a major reshuffling of Houston's O line. (I din't bother to see what that consisted of or even if it was true. Ha!)

It will interesting to see how they do this week.

Yeah I get that, but most teams get their pressures and sacks against bad protection. We watch the Lions every week and other teams sporadically.

One of the things about last year was the argument about pressure versus coverage and what was the main culprit. I think it's clear now how much better coverage has helped the defense. Signing Robertson to free up BB to play safety exclusively was a BFD.
