Vikings offense had been moving backwards for the entire half, was out of timeouts and had to move the length of the field and convert a 2-point conversion in order to just TIE the game.
There are times when a bad call has a significant impact on who wins a game. This was not one of those times
Absolutely agree.
It just saved them from a failed last minute drive.
Of course, I would have been pissed if it happened to the Lions

How would the facemask penalty been enforced? 15 yards from the spot of the foul or line of scrimmage? And if it’s from the spot because it was in the endzone, would they count it off from goalline?
"This is an empty signature. Because apparently carrying a quote from anyone in this space means you are obsessed with that person. "
I have no sympathy for those fuckers what-so-ever.
It's about time some other teams get the "Lions treatment" from the NFL.
This. It's so funny -- there are Lions fans on X talking about how bad they feel for Minnesota. Saying stuff like, "I was rooting against the Vikings but I want them to lose fair and square, what happened last night was a travesty."
GTFO with that shit. It's football. It's a game. It's not that serious. Screw them. I'm glad they lost and I'm glad they got screwed over, lol.
On one hand, as an detached viewer of the game, it would have been cool to see just what the Vikings could have done with that last drive, and it kinda sucks that the opportunity was ripped away by a really terrible non-call.
On the other hand, fuck the Vikings sideways with a rusty pitchfork. Get fucked.
There's an outside chance the Rams turn out to be the more formidable playoff opponent.
Yeah, it's that time of year. In the past this is when we started looking to see what teams needed to lose so the Lions might be able to sneak into a wild card spot. Now we are looking to see who needs to lose for the Lions to win the division and possibly get the top seed and a bye or who might be a better team to face in the playoffs.
In that light, I think, as much as it pains me to do it, I am rooting for the Cowboys to beat the 49rs while they are banged up.
I feel dirty for that and will go take a shower now.

1) Missed calls happen. Each one impacts the outcome of the game. This missed call reduced the Vikings chance of winning from 3% to near 0%. It had only a small impact on the outcome of the game. As Lions fans, we've been the victim of bad calls that reduced our chances of winning from 90% to 0%. These are not the same things.
2) This missed call was not incompetence from the refs. Most don't have responsibilities to watch the QB & defensive player. The one or two that may have had eyes on the ball simply didn't have the angle to see the hand on the mask. If there is any incompetence here, it is on the league for not allowing for some kind of review. Let's assign blame where it belongs.
1. The umpire was ten feet away focusing on the qb. You can see him in the frame. It was incompetence at its highest level, I saw it 3000 miles in real time on a dinky phone screen.
2. The win probability shit is total nonsense. 1st and 10 from the 20 with a minute and a half has a better than 3 percent chance. All anyone has to do is watch football
3. Part of the incompetence is the NFL's unwillingness to change. That's a scoring play, it's automatically reviewed. If you see the facemask you change the ruling. Simple low hanging fruit The NFL is in a prison of its own making. They are rarely right and never in doubt.

The photo I saw that showed the facemask, the ref at the backline was blocked by two other players behind the QB....It didnt look like that guy could see the penalty.
Oh, of course. It was absolutely bullshit how the game ended, and the incompetence of the referees in the NFL has never been in question. Only thing I've ever pushed back on was that they had it out specifically against the Lions.
I know I'm on an island here, but I thought the replacement refs were better in the sense that they didn't have quite the same bias for "high profile" teams like the regular refs did. Don't get me wrong, they still sucked, but at least they didn't suck in such depressingly predictable ways (Green Bay would have never gotten screwed by the regular refs, for example).
The answer is more than just full-time refs. They need to be full time and younger overall. A lot of these refs have been doing this for decades, and it shows. They simply aren't physically capable of keeping up with the game and its changes. That and the rulebook really needs some sorting out. It's such a draconian behemoth of a tome at this point, and much of it is really retroactively changing interpretations of rules so that the league never has to admit they screwed up.
