The clock would stop if they have to measure. If it’s just spotting the ball, that’s part of game flow unless players are purposely doing something to delay the spot then the ref can sometimes pause the clock or reset before winding the clock. But spotting the ball is just typically part of the new play clock, which starts as soon as the prior play is whistled dead.

Two runs there seem like the play. One run might get the first if you only need 3. Depending on how much yardage is left can determine 4th down.
If you dont make it the offense is pinned deep with 3 pt lead? With no timeouts those 20 yards of field position helps. Offense still has to drive, clock, and make the kick.
Issue was the def more than the offense. Just dont give up a TD regardless.AAL - Glover Quinn
