  • I think no small part of the problem is by the time Goff sees JaMo open, JaMo has already outrun Goff's arm. The dude's speed is just unreal. Goff himself acknowledged that he has to learn to get the ball out there sooner than he likes and trust that Williams will make the catch, and it's clear Goff doesn't like doing that.

I mean, it took Goff most of the season to really start trusting Chark. It doesn't surprise me he's just as wary with Jameson Williams, especially considering how JaMo struggled with his hands early on.

    • And I just realized now that I saw them back to back, but the Niners took notes from the Lions again.

What I don’t get is, where are the deep shots. Saints were rolling coverage to St Brown and that helped LaPorta get one on one all day. But you’d think that would also free up some deep routes. So are they not calling any, is Jamo not getting separation or is Goff not seeing/throwing them? What helped make the offense really click last year was when Chark got healthy and teams had to respect him deep. But they also actually threw him deep passes on ocassion.
I kind of feel once they got up 21-0, they were just shutting it down. On first downs it was either boring runs to the right that the Saints were loading up for or some cute play Ben Johnson was cooking up to lose three yards.

In my mind the Lions, try to bully ball running the ball, but I think they are better running then ball left-handed where you pass on first down. But they make the big bucks, whatever happened today they got behind the sticks during the drought.

          • I thought the offense stagnated when they went away from bully ball. When Johnson starts getting cute and they start playing sideline to sideline, the offense loses momentum

            • That's true about the sideline to sideline plays, but they were not getting anything running to the right up 21-0

I think what they like to do, especially if they come out of the half with the lead, is that they go into full clock control (with a handful of wrinkles to try some plays they normally don't run and try and keep defenses honest). There's two problems with that lately.

                1) Opponents are getting wise to that, and are stacking hard against that first down run that is critical for clock control.

                2) The defense is simply giving it up too fast and too easily to be able to comfortably hold a lead that way.

                • Definitely agree.on point 1, it was obvious by that second stalled drive that the Saints were.selling out to stop that give.to the right.

                      • Love was a first round pick. Who knows about the hall of fame, but I never got why guys wrote him off before seeing him start a full season.

                          • Love is getting better and GB’s defense has become stingy, already 3 sacks on Mahomes.

The first three drives after going up 21-0, they ran 4 times for 24 yards, 1 sack, 1 screen for -1 yards, 1 completed pass for 1 yard, and 3 incompletes.
