  • I'm not sure.its exactly how that went down, but it's the conventional wisdom. He was traded for peanuts to be a depth running back on Philly. I'd like to be able to go to him rather than to Zonovan "Bam" Knight. If he did want out, maybe it was because they featured a loud mouth like Duce Staley.

I have no problems with the 1st round draft picks this year at all.

The lesson learned is to make those kind of deals for yourself in the future like Philly did. A future 4th rounder

    • We drafted Swift in the 2nd, I felt a 4th for a guy that’s never peaked 620 rushing yards in a season was a good haul.

      • So would rather have the 4th round pick in 2025 and Zonovan "Bam" Knight right now or Swift?

        • The problem was, once you pay Montgomery and then draft a RB at #12, Swift knew he was headed to 3rd on the depth chart in a contract year. I think anybody is asking out at that point. He also clearly didn't connect with the coaching staff after two years - whether it was the injuries/toughness or other reasons.

Maybe they could have sold a bit higher on Swift before the draft, but who knows with the way the RB market shook out. But then they are telegraphing the RB need headed into the draft.

          • Well, that's an assumption on your end Froot. Was anyone offering a future 4th for a RB notorious for bad wheels and a shell of himself when he's not 100%?

            I don't know. I guess it's possible, but I doubt it.

And I never liked the trade. I don’t think trading Swift and drafting Gibbs hugely improved us as a roster.

Generally I love his drafts but this first round was a “what the fuck” moment.
i think the thought process was lock a rookie in for 4 years in favor of contract talks in the off season for a guy who can’t stay healthy

Game 1 last year vs Philly he literally averaged 10 yards a carry. He's doing somewhat the same right now. Of course I'd rather have one year of that over a 2025 4th. But will Philly ACTUALLY get one year of that?

                • The main thing is that we are clearly a year away and Swift is on his last year. The goal this year is to win a home playoff game. That's progress, that's all I need to see, and anything beyond that is gravy. In the current playoff format if you win a home playoff game it means you've either won your division or you're going to the conference championship at minimum.

                  • Plus once Whiterspoon was drafted by Seattle the Lions opted to go with their board. They traded down acquiring the LaPorta pick. Swift was always on the way out it was whether we get something for him or not

I didn't mean combined. Just saying I bet Gibbs tops Swifts season high (617 yards) in his first year.

I'm not exactly sure what Froot thinks he could have gotten in this scenario, or if he would have told Swift, "Too bad, bitch. You play for us or you don't play at all."

Last I checked, he didn't like it when the Lions said that.
Didn’t he only demand the trade when we drafted Gibbs?

Starting for the Raiders today… Hope he does well. Awesome person. Of course a fantastic college education.

Patriots did a nice job of doing this while they had Brady.
