  • Sounds like a conspiracy theory. Is someone saying the NFL is rigged like the NBA?

    Comment

    • Nah, it’s incompetence and a few terrible rules/ guidelines. Such as roughing the passer. Though I can’t recall roughing the passer hurting the Lions this season to my surprise…

      • My point is that if the refs are favoring the Packers, which was being insinuated, then yes the games are being rigged for certain teams.

        • Fine by me. The Lions are going to send the Pack into purgatory where they belong. They don’t have Erin or Favre waiting in the wings.

          F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

          • Correct.
The best of both worlds is purgatory land for the Packers. I’m in a text thread with a few Packers fans and they were ready to tank for a high draft pick. Now that’s off the table.

            Go Dolphins on Christmas!!!

              GO VIKES!
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Not a conspiracy as much a conglomeration of psychology and incompetence all converging on one point.

Any given crew isn't terribly good even in the best of conditions. Just watch any NFL game between any two teams for evidence of that. But when you have poor officials, poorly trained and practiced, then add a team with a long reputation of winning (especially against teams with a long history of losing), a historic location with some very loud fans, and you have the perfect recipe for refs having a discernible slant in their calls, all with nary a memo being needed.

If it was an outright conspiracy, road teams would never win at all; but you have to either play a remarkably clean game and/or the Packers have to be rather sloppy. Otherwise, the refs will be able to be a factor. Can the Lions do it? Yep. Will they? TBD.

                • I don't buy it. Back in the day, GB loved to stroke themselves talking about their perfect home playoff record. After starting 13-0, they've gone 7-7 since.

Brett Favre won 3 (or 2½...) MVPs in a row along with a Super Bowl. He and his Packers were media darlings and had never lost a home playoff game in their magical fairy dust leprechaun stadium. All the conditions are there for home cooking and tilted officiating. Yet somehow 7-7 after 13-0.
"Yeah, we just... we don't want them to go. So that's our motivation."

I've often wondered if the league likes to have certain teams/players in the playoffs....Isn't a Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers worth more in revenue to the league than a Jared Goff come playoff time?...I know alot of casual NFL fans...They know who Brady and Rodgers are....They couldn't tell you the name of the Lions starting QB.

                    • The trouble with the "NFL games are fixed" conspiracy theory is the same trouble all conspiracy theories have.

There is no way that you could keep that secret with the amount of people that would be involved.

                      • By saying “there is no way the refs are going to let the Packers season at Lambo is basically saying the game will be intentionally called in a way for the Packers to win.
But I guess you are really saying is that the refs have so many human traits that they won’t be able to overcome them and call a game on a professional level.
There is a big difference in the 2 opinions.

                        • The Packers as a franchise have been very good at working the refs. I don't think they get all the calls, but they get a lot of calls against the Lions. The Lions as a franchise are the worst at working the refs.

The Lambeau home field advantage has been overrated for a while now. When they lose in the playoffs it has generally been at home.

The NBA has thankfully moved away from an style that gave outsized importance to the refs. When you have 80-75 slugfests in the playoffs, every call's importance is magnified. It isn't like that now, the elevation of the three has diminished the importance of getting to the line.

They lose at home in the playoffs because they tend to have home field advantage. Their last road playoff game was in 2019 (a loss to San Francisco). Which makes sense, as the teams that are most likely to win at Lambeau (play clean and execute at a high level and thus remove the refs from the equation as much as possible) tend to be playoff caliber teams.

                            • Rodgers ran around last night for like 10 seconds before he got sacked. I think it was before the half. It’s always amazed me how GB never gets called for holding while he’s running in circles.

                              • They lose at home because they have played in a shitty division and don't have to be very good to win it. They get the home field advantage and then get beaten by a better team.

The Lions and the rest of the division have not been good enough to overcome the Lambeau Home Cookin'
