  • So you agree with me that the running quarterback must change his game to become a pocket passer to win in the NFL, good to see you agree with my archaic thinking.

    • I think mobile quarterbacking is a nightmare to defend. I still wouldn’t exactly call Hurts a “pocket passer”. He’s a dual threat. I want someone who is a threat with their arm and their legs.

        • When quarterbacks can run, it is a nightmare to defend, but if they can't pick you apart from the pocket, the ceiling is lower. Eventually you run into a defense that is going to corral you and you are going to get pummeled. I don't think people quite realize how much better an average NFL defense is than a great college defense like Clemson.

          • True but when a sheer "pocket passer" has no where to go, he literally has no where to go. If a guy can make due to a first down?

I don't need "Skeets" Nehemiah with the ball in his hands. I just need Rodgers level speed to get away from the big boys and make a first. I think you guys have PTSD from Ware. All QBs who can effectively run the ball are not necessarily running QBs.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

It 1000% is a nightmare to defend. It’s also a nightmare to sustain once those hits start piling up and they will.

Throw the ball away and live to fight another day.

Only way Rodgers is taking off and running is if you give him 20 yards of green turf (or grass - but it's in short supply these days).
Otherwise, he's looking to beat you downfield for more than what he'd gain with his legs - it's what pocket QB's should do. Leverage the break in coverage who switch to mobile QB for a bigger gain than you can otherwise get. He's been a master of that his whole career - up to this year - where he literally has nobody he trusts - for arguably the first time in his career.

I'd rather have one that gets the first and slides. It's not rocket science once egos are put away

So will a QB that stands in the pocket waiting for his WRs to get open. Throwing it away is an easy cop out. A mobile enough QB can do that too you know?

I’m just not seeing much evidence that they get injured more than pocket QB’s. People have been saying this about Lamar since he got into the league…still waiting.

Burrow and Allen (if UCL) both look to have sustained serious injuries in the pocket.

It's a short term luxury, and a long term pain in the ass - when your 20 something beast turns into a 30 something liability - unless he can master the aerial game.
