  • Dan has been touting Stafford for a long time. He's earned that "I told you so" moment.

There is a difference between 1) a QB propping up a team with mediocre to poor talent to to win big games and 2) a QB propping up a talented team that is making a lot of mistakes during a big game.

To expect #1 is unrealistic even from the all time greats. It was nice to see Stafford demonstrate his ability to do #2.

    • And for all the haters who want to say, "Hur hur, the Rams made it to the Super Bowl with Jared Goff!" this is not the Rams team that was carried by their defense and power running game (though McVay sure seems to think they are, but I digress). The Rams I would argue are considerably weaker, especially defensively, than they ever were. They have a lot of really good pieces, but also a lot of very weak ones.

Offensively, this is not the O-Line that was clearing holes for Todd Gurley. Defensively, they have a lot of question marks in the back seven. The Rams are still a very good team, but it's not the juggernaut that steamrolled offenses like in 2016. Stafford has had to do a lot more than Goff ever has to get to this point, and he's done it exceptionally, especially these last two games. If Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady had played the way Stafford has, we'd be talking about whether the Packers or Bucs were going to win the NFC.

Start putting some respect on the name. You were disastrously wrong all this time.

      • Look at the teams in the playoffs and how stacked they are. Always remember this when thinking how close the Lions are. If and when the Lions get there, you will know how far away they are now.

Compare this Rams team to the 2014 Lion team. People always pointed to that team as something he should have won with. That team doesn't compare to this Ram team.. This Rams team is stacked and they got a magnificent game from Stafford and still needed him to play hero ball at the end.

        • I don't think the Lions were completely off with talent but the coaches specifically the OC were terrible. Jim Bob Scooter wasted years of Stafford's prime.

Stafford was throwing to CJ and Tate. He had plenty of weapons but Scooter couldn't figure out how to incorp a running game. That was ludicrous, but yet they kept rolling out the same old shit.
          F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

There are obviously numerous ways you can win a game. Running the ball down somebody's throat is certainly one of them. TB certainly had some games this year where they did that. New Orleans ran for 152 in their other win against TB. You know what else happened in that game? Brady was sacked 3 times, hit 5 times and threw 3 INTs. And TB still had a chance to march down the field late and win the game until Brady got pressured into a pick 6.

In the 4 games TB lost, Brady took 10 of his 20 sacks and threw 5 of his 12 INTs. I would guess the pressure rates in those games would reflect similarly. You want to beat Brady, get pressure on him.
Are we talking chicken or egg coming first here?

That was dirty. You get kicked in the nutz and see how much you want to be cordial.

That was a penalty that should have been called.

Yup. No need to take favorites. One ex-Lion kicked another ex-Lion in the nutz.

That ain't the way to do it. In fact, IF he was trying to protect himself, the best thing would be to go in a fetal position. Extending his leg out there could have gotten it twisted.

I know you guys got some serious love for the ex-Lion, but why hate Suh? He played his az off when he was here and no team treated them like the toothless pussycats they've been before and after. I don't get why one is so loved and the other disliked.

BTW, the "dirty" moniker never traveled with Suh when he left Detroit. Just something other teams (cough, cough, GB, cough...) said to try and stop him.

Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Yeah, the talent was not where it needed to be, but even worse was the OC. Austin was good but JBC was awful and he'll never be an OC again. Caldwell hung himself by being loyal to that joker.

Orlovsky being a good former teammate of Stafford… of course he’s biased. Stafford was playing like a dark horse MVP in 2016 before the hand injury. Orlovsky the backup QB in 2016. He saw the best of Stafford in Detroit up close.

                  2. Calvin Johnson and Tate played together for a grand total of one season. Calvin was not in his prime by then and that's why he retired, he was banged up. They didn't have plenty of weapons, they weren't close to what the Rams have. Also people overrate Golden Tate, he was a JAG when anybody other than Stafford was playing for them.
                  3. In 2014 they had Joique Bell as their bell cow and Ebron as their TE, again not weapons.

THIS is why I wanted the trade. And so should all you. Whether you like him or not (I like him).

This Lions team is nowhere near what the Rams have and I don't think it will be for a couple of years. Would it had been fair to Matt to just keep holding on to him? Or was it the right thing to do to let him go where he wanted to.

And would it had been fair to the Lions to get better slower then they would have by drafting in the middle of each round? Would they had kept more of the FAs? IDK.

But both sides have the ability to "win" this trade. Although picking 31/32 is a glorified 2nd rounder, it is what it is.

Again I have never "hated" on MS and I'm not about to start now. I'm pro-Lions

I'm missing something here. Why all the Suh hate? Because he got mad at someone kicking him in the nads? Really?

I never really complained about the trade. This isn't like the Verlander trade where they gave him away to ensure a title for the Astros.

My problem is we may never see another quarterback that good in Detroit again. It's not easy to get one. The younger fellas don't remember how bad the quarterback position prior to Stafford.

Although i did think all Stafford bummers were on some form of narcotic…… BUT…… turns out, i just know diddly squat about US Football and you were all correct about Matt. And FTR…… very happy for him. Hoping they stuff the 9ers and makes the game that’ll be the fairytale pinnacle of his career.

Again (dam it was the MS haters and now the lovers) it is more then just the quarterback. They don't win or lose alone. LAR beat Tampa Bay. Simple as that.

We (not in the QB Jesus club) all said, it's about more then just the QB.

Glad he's on a great team where his abilities and intelligence show he's a really good QB capable of winning a SB. Some of us knew this all along.

P and S - IDK if the haters you guys want a pound of flesh from are going to walk into an obvious buzz saw. I sincerely doubt it.

                            • I think McVay is a better coach than some of the coordinators that the Lions employed, but a lot of what works for the Rams is the stuff Stafford was doing in Detroit.
