Stafford was drafted onto the first 0-16 team in NFL history. The Lions were 0-16 before Stafford got here. His first two seasons were cut short by injury. In his 3rd season, he got them into the playoffs. He had a couple of other playoff appearances but no real success. He got criticism for not winning and for padding his stats. He eventually requested a trade and now, his first season away from the team, the Lions could potentially become the first 0-17 team in NFL history.

It kinda reminds me of Lebron James in a way. He was drafted onto one of the worst teams in NBA history, struggled to get the Cavs anywhere, criticized for "quitting" on his team... went to Miami and won three titles while the Cavs literally went from one of the top teams in the conference to the worst almost overnight.

Well, turned out James had a damn good reason for quitting on that franchise. I don't blame him for saying "fuck it" just like I wouldn't have blamed Stafford for doing the same. Sometimes you're surrounded by incompetence and you decide it's not worth your mental or physical health fighting a lost cause.
