Thing is they weren't even SF East. Sure that's what they aspired to be, but they would've loved to have actually been even a poor man's 49ers at that time. They weren't even that though.

Putting Matt Millen in charge of the Detroit Lions 20 years ago put this Franchise back decades.

Yet another reason why I was glad that the Lions fans booed the Ford family at halftime of the Baltimore game, because they deserved it for nearly 6 decades of crappy ownership.

He has most definitely not thrived in Seattle. He had a few decent games early on in Seattle and then has sucked. Their defense has been bad since he's been there and he gets caught out of position and torched a lot. Same thing he was doing here. He gets a few picks a year because he's always trying to jump routes but he gives up far more than he gets. PFF scores of 60 and 64 there reflect that.

I suppose he's better than Will Harris but who isn't?

        • Just for the record..... I never stopped being a fan of Barry - even after he retired. I do root for good players. My team always lets me down. But I like football. SO I root for other things too. And I didn't decide Slay was trash when he got traded. Or Diggs. Or Kerry Hyder for that matter. I root for those guys. Especially when I feel like they gave all they had for the shit team I hope someday becomes quality. Same for MS. I don't feel like he ever phoned it in. It wasn't always good results..... but he gave all he had. Sometimes loyalty goes both ways.

Plus, I knew a year ago the Lions were fucked for the next few years - so I might as well find something else to provide entertainment. And if that sticks it to the Lions owners..... good. I'm rooting for the Rams this year. I always like the Mike Martz Rams back in the day. Lions aint going anywhere soon. A higher draft pick is not going to be some miracle tonic that fixes the fukkin Lions.

I'd have been a fan of Barry and Calvin if they went to another team too. Shocking, I know.

I was always a fan of Anthony Carter. When he ended up on the Lions that was amazing. Even though he was basically done.

I think that's a misdiagnosis of that era. Fontes decided they were scoring too quickly, I never heard one fan complain about scoring too quickly. Instead of sticking with what they were doing after they got shellacked by a really good Washington team, they decided to go to Dan Henning. That had nothing to do with the fans.

You get a lot more worked up about press conferences than I ever will. Saying things the fans will eat up happens in every NFL city. You have called him a meathead because presumably you think you are much smarter than him. I don't know, people take away the high level soundbites. I've listened to numerous Campbell interviews now and I don't think he is a meathead. He actually explains things well. Most of these Lion coaches thought it was beneath them on simple questions. I find him to be the least insecure coach they have had since Fontes.

None of that matters though, it matters what players they get. We have had at least three different combinations of front office and coaches in the last 20 seasons that only relied on their former team to get players. I haven't seen that yet. But then again this year is a year to clean everything out. It depends on who they get in the next couple years.

Ya know what? If this were any other team, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, and think, "Maybe they see something no one else does. It might not work, but I give them credit for trying."

With the Lions, I already know they don't see shit. They see shit thrown at a wall and think it's the new wave of impressionist art. They're the guys that thought Matt Millen was a good idea. The thought process of this coaching decision probably went something like this.

Shiela: This Campbell fellow. Didn't he use to play for us?

Wood: Yes, ma'am. Can I please sniff your ass again and tell you how wonderful it smells?

Holmes: Yeah, we looked at him, and eh... if no one else says yes, we'll offer something.

Shiela: That won't do! He already knows our culture! Give him six years!

Wood: Right away, ma'am. And once again, may I tell you how fabulous it is when you pee on my face?

Shiela: Excellent. Anyway, you were saying, Mr....?

Holmes: Holmes. I'm your general manager. You hired me last month.

Shiela: Did I? Hunh. Must have been drinking again. Anyway, I'm sorry. I don't normally associate with... people like you. I assumed you were a player on injured reserve.

Holmes: Is that why you've tried to direct me to the hot tubs for the last three hours?

                Shiela: It's our culture!

                • Yeah you might be right, but it is nothing to get worked up over. Either they succeed or don't succeed, setting down your marker I'm being the first to call it doesn't mean much. If you truly have the same confidence that they wouldn't get it done like your angry diatribes suggest, you probably wouldn't be following them at all until the Fords sold the team.

                  • Maybe you missed the part that the only reason I follow this team at all is because I've grown attached to this community and want to keep abreast of what's happening.

I have absolutely zero faith the franchise will amount to anything as long as the Ford family owns it. The rot and incompetence over the last six decades have one (and only one) common denominator.

                        • I have been a Lion fan since 1970. That is just because that is the first year I can really remember. I was 4...As far back as I can really remember watching and knowing what was happening, somewhat. I may not plan my sundays around them anymore but they will always be my team. They will probably never win it all but neither will I.

For most of my life it would wreck my life for a few days after a loss. Then real life really hit and I realized that that shit doesnt really mean anything.

                          • That is very true, Fox……. BUT…… like Hibs in 2016 after 114 years drought…… it can mean A LOT!!!

It’d be great for far away fans like me, but oh man, for Detroit / Michigan based lifelong fans like yourself ——->> it’ll be a non stop, drunk for one whole week party!

I was working delivering pizzas when the Wings won in 97 and people were celebrating in the streets far away in the suburbs.
