  • Yep Stafford did win the Super Bowl for my LA Rams and that order is only valid for the first three weeks of the season. After week 3 it goes by current season records.

        • I think this waiver order question came up last year when the Lions were terrible but missed out on early claims.

          • A couple weeks ago, the Rams were using some dude at QB who was undrafted and spent a year in a harness because his spine was injured. I don't think there is much more going on than they need a warm body and a former #1 pick is a decent reclamation project.

Let's remember we received Goff in the trade also. He allows us to pick a developmental QB this year.

                  I don't disagree in theory.

But how many athletes have played with the risks having already earned crazy amounts over their careers? Manning won a SB, had neck surgery and went on to play 4 or 5 more years. Brady has spent more time on injury reports than most players have had in the league. Rodgers has clearly suffered a serious of concussions making him a full blown idiot. Farve kept playing after countless concussions. He claimed thousands. Cutler claimed a dozen concussions and kept going.

List goes on and on of guys putting the game before their own health even after they made tons of money.

You can make lots of great points that it is the wrong choice, or the choice is not logical - but you can't deny that the choice to play even at high risk of CTE or other injuries is one countless QBs have made.

                    • Maybe. But athletes still make that choice all of the time and risk their mind to play the game. Whether it is or isn't best, they choose to play.

                        • John Wolford questionable for Thursday Night Football

The Rams are leaning toward having Baker Mayfield active for Thursday Night Football. Coach Sean McVay made it sound as if John Wolford‘s availability will play a part in whether Mayfield dresses.

Wolford was limited in Tuesday and Wednesday’s practices.

He has started two of the three games Matthew Stafford has missed. Third-stringer Bryce Perkins started Week 12 with Stafford out and Wolford’s neck injury limiting him to emergency backup duty.

“I feel bad for John,” McVay said, “that it’s been a thing that’s kind of pestered him because I thought he did a really good job the other day, and we’ll see what that means for tomorrow.”

The Rams ruled out defensive tackle Aaron Donald (ankle) for a second consecutive week. Donald had never missed a game for injury until last week.

Linebacker Travin Howard (hip), linebacker Terrell Lewis (back) and linebacker David Long Jr. (groin) also did not practice this week and won’t play.

Cornerback Troy Hill (groin), receiver Lance McCutcheon (shoulder) and receiver Brandon Powell (illness) are questionable. The Rams added Powell to the practice report Wednesday after he missed practice.

Hill and McCutheon were full participants Wednesday.

                          • Rams are leaning toward having Baker Mayfield active Thursday night

The Rams claimed Baker Mayfield off waivers Tuesday, and he arrived at the team facility about 14 hours ago.

Coach Sean McVay said the Rams are “working through” the quarterback’s status for Thursday Night Football.

“I’ll lean toward him being active,” McVay said.

He acknowledged it would be “unprecedented” for a quarterback to be ready to play so soon, but believes Mayfield can do it.

“He’s a really sharp, smart, cerebral player that has a great competitiveness to him that you can’t help but like,” McVay said, via Greg Beacham of the Associated Press.

The Rams might not have a choice.

Backup John Wolford, who has started two of the three games Matthew Stafford has missed, is questionable with a neck injury. He was limited in the team’s walkthrough Wednesday.

Third-stringer Bryce Perkins started Week 12 with Stafford out and Wolford’s neck injury keeping him on the sideline as the emergency backup.

The Rams were the only team to put in a waiver claim on Mayfield, who the Panthers released Monday.

“When you have a player of his caliber become available and you look at just the circumstances and the situation surrounding our quarterback room, we felt like it was the right move for us,” McVay said, via Gilbert Manzano of the Orange County Register. “I’ve always respected his game.”

I'm not saying he should come back. I'm saying athletes often do. Even if they shouldn't.

                              • Report: Baker Mayfield in line to start for Rams if John Wolford isn’t healthy to play

Baker Mayfield‘s whirlwind week could see him start on Thursday night for a team he just joined.

Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters on Wednesday that he was leaning toward having Mayfield being active on Thursday night. That’s in part due to the health of backup quarterback John Wolford, who is questionable with a neck injury.

But according to a Thursday morning report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, if Wolford is unable to play after going through pregame warmups, Mayfield would be in line to start against the Raiders.

That would mean Mayfield jumped third quarterback Bryce Perkins on the depth chart despite joining the Rams on Tuesday.

With Stafford likely out for the rest of the season after suffering a spinal contusion, the 3-9 Rams don’t have many great options at QB. Wolford has started two games, but Perkins started the Week 12 loss at Kansas City as Wolford was dealing with his neck injury. Perkins finished that game 13-of-23 for 100 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He also had nine carries for 44 yards.

In seven games with six starts for Carolina this season, Mayfield completed 58 percent of his passes for 1,313 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions.

We’ll see what quarterbacks will dress for L.A. when inactives are released 90 minutes before kickoff on Thursday evening.
