Im fairly certain the LAR pick is going to be 32. Good for Stafford.

The biggest inefficiency is football is the ability to trade draft picks for proven players. It's been like that for as long as I've watched football. Teams overvalue picks,. especially when you can trade mid round picks for a player that you can get a few years out of them. A team like the Lions have to value them right now because they need to build the team

But his team has won in spite of him for two weeks in a row now. He outdid himself in this one with terrible playcalls and completely boneheaded challenges. Leaders like Aaron Donald are why they came through regardless.
As for Caldwell: that he and Stafford won so many games from behind - an NFL record number in 2016 - should've told us all something. His calm so often proved crucial at the business end of games... but again, he never had a team in Detroit which was remotely good enough.

I don’t disagree with that but the Stafford trade was right for everyone. He was beat down in Detroit and didn’t want to go through another rebuild.
If he were still in Detroit they might have been around the playoffs but wouldn’t have made the run the Rams made. That Rams team added pieces like OBJ and V Miller mid season.
That’s insaneF#*K OHIO!!!
You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

The question about 2014 or even 2011 isn't why Stafford couldn't do it for them, it's more along the lines of why didn't the Lions do more. They had the foundation but they were very passive. If there is a next time where they have similar talent level, they have to move heaven and earth to get more guys.

Players like Von Miller and OBJ are pretty big names, but they were tarnished goods. Guys like that are available during the season. New England made.it a habit of picking up players who had lost their luster. The thing a franchise has to be comfortable with is that some of the trades or signings might handcuff them a couple years down the road. Most franchises instead of going all in, they kind of want to be like the Steelers and Ravens where they consistently get in the playoffs and hope they get hot. It does work at times, but it's incredibly hard to sustain.

I believe Stafford would have been a great fit with Campbell. Seeing Campbell's and Holmes first year leads me to believe the rebuild would have been fairly quick. I think the Lions have a chance to succeed but prior to Stafford they went decades without a viable quarterback and there is a good chance that repeats itself.

I think one difference is that the Lions actually have options in that regard. In those dark ages you speak of, I'm not even sure the Lions really scouted some of the guys they drafted or signed, and just picked names they recognized from national articles.
Hell, if Goff continues to improve, the Lions may already have that answer right in their laps. I'm still not 100% sold, but the promise IS there. And if team manages to completely lay an egg, they'll be sitting on a high draft pick in what looks to be fairly strong QB class.Last edited by chemiclord; January 31, 2022, 12:42 AM.

The problem with drafting quarterbacks is you don't have that many opportunities to do it. Your fate is tied to being really bad the same year a stud quarterback comes out. Since I've been watching the Lions they have drafted 4 quarterbacks. The first three weren't any good and then they were bad at the right time with Stafford. There is a very good chance Goff will be better than any available quarterback they can draft within the next 4 seasons. Lord knows during Stafford years we could come up with a page of new quarterbacks the HeMan Stafford haters club would rather have. Most of those guys are out the league.
