Midnight here. Just finished watching the most surreal stuff on my TV screen. Off to bed now knowing that my brother was right all those years ago, jokingly tweaking the scripture --->> "The morons and the neds will inherit the Earth."
The Official Video for the 1983 hit single “Rip It Up” by Orange Juice, taken from the album of the same name. Remember to subscribe to stay up to date with ...

Fuck these Fucking Fucks ---->> The garage in Glasgow ----->> but it is ok really, in the grand scheme of things.
Long story short
Van purchased in Glasgow on Monday and headed through to Glasgow to pick it up today. Not a new van because due to rising prices, I cannot afford it ---->> its a 6 years old, ex British Telecom van, (BT) with £48K miles on it and a full service history.
We drive from that garage the 8 miles back to the M8 motorway and all is great. Get onto the motorway and it maxes out at 56mph!! I was like, "Come on you POS, MOVE!" ...., had lorries up my hoop in the mirrors. Anyone ever went too slow on a motorway? It is scarier than going too fast.
So.... ( <<--- probably not legal but WG'sAF)....., drove it back to the garage. Explanation is BT have speed limiters on their vehicles; 68mph on vans, 56mph on trucks. Some nuggetheid was obviously working on this van. They need the auto electrician with computer to cancel ALL the limiters and he'll not be there until Friday.
So.... ( <<---- probably still not legal but STILL not G'ingAF) .... drove back to Edinburgh vanless and had to make calls to alter a few jobs in the diary.
The positive is that they are now going to deliver the van to us so we don't have to drive back to the shed that is Glasgow.
And........, as said, in the grand scheme of things, it's all ok because I just need to go onto the internet and look at "World News", and think, "WELL, Its all FKD anyway really, innit?!"

Looks as if once they get it figured out you will have a pretty solid van. 48k miles is pretty low mileage for a 6 year old van.
We had a major ice storm last night. There are a lot of limbs down and power has been out since about 4 am. I heard limbs crashing and transformers blowing. I think it is going to be a while until it is back up. It is just starting to get above freezing and is only supposed to get intoo the mid 30s today.
I had my camp stove on the back porch because my kitchen is torn apart so I was sort of prepared for it. Heated some water for coffee and I have a couple of old kerosene lanterns and some candles burning in the living room so it is tolerable right now.
I wish I had gotten that damn fireplace fixed when I had them look at it a while ago. Ha!
I am thinking that I probably should get a whole house generator, but I am a cheap bastard and don't want to come off of the cash..

Holy shit, more storms? 🤦♂️
I did see a weather story whilst on a news binge that the entire southern border inc all of Florida has a “generational” ice band of weather? And it was quite far inland as well.
Unbelievable.
I suppose it’ll help Orange Jesus with all the Mexicans getting stuck in the snow while making a beeline for “north”!
unofficial advice (although use your own discretion) …… crack open a window very slightly for ventilation purposes and get the fireplace lit!
Yes, 48K miles is very good indeed and that was the draw on purchasing. Was one BT employees van who's jurisdiction was the Motherwell area only. 👌
And yes, Froot Loops, I can understand that.
Indicated and joined the motorway while trying to get it to speed up. Eventually pulled out with reasonable distance before a Tesco lorry driver……. But he was on my tail quick. I was like, “oh fuuuuck! Stress!” Made to Harthill before turning back to Glasgow.

One time over 15 years ago right around this time in January Metro Detroit had an ice storm and cold snap that took out the power all over. My sump pump overflowed in the basement and we were out of power for 4 days. My side of street for some reason always takes the brunt of the power outages. The other side of the street generally keeps power. We rented this little generator to keep the sump pump running but the generator only held gas for about 4 hours, so that meant getting up in the middle of the night to refill. It was about as cold as it is now and every day the house would lose 5 to 10 degrees.
I think we were the last street in Metro Detroit to get power restored. We had to deploy extraordinary measures, my wife's cousin was a cameraman/reporter for Channel 4 so he got Hank Winchester to report from our house. That did the trick, the power was back on the next day

I would already have a fire going but Mary is too freaked out about it and it is easier to be cold than to try to convince her that it would be ok. Ha!

Had to google Hank Winchester. He definitely looks like he'd get stuff done. Great job by your wife's cousin.
Going to post this YouTube clip because when you were talking about "both sides of the street" ....., my mind went to this.

Well, (<<------ Kind of a more legal form or so) My tenant called and said he had some branches in his driveway, I drove over to take a look and it turns out an entire fucking tree fell and has it blocked. The tree was on the front right corner of the lot and fell across the front yard. There are some relatively big branches blocking the driveway so (<-----legal) I am going to have to take my chainsaw over and clear them off. There are also some branches on the roof, but I don't think they caused any damage.
I am getting kind of old for chainsaw work, but I should be able to handle this.
Once things settle down a bit, I'll call the tree guy I use and have him cut it all up and haul it off, but it might take a while for him to get to it.
Mary has a friend who has power. She spent the night there. I stayed in our house with Boone. He is a bit freaked out, but is doing ok.
It was 53 in the house when I went to bed last night and 47 this morning. It got down to 29 last night. I am a bit surprised that it has stayed this warm in the house. It is supposed to get up to 40 today.
GA Power gave an etr of 8:30 last night, but when 8:30 rolled around I got a text saying etr 8:30 tonight instead. I think they may have put the wrong date on the first text?
It was pretty comfortable last night, kind of like camping only I have a bed and a lot of blankets. I went to bed with too many clothes on last night and had to strip down. I was pretty cozy
Awww, sorry about the tree! Glad the damage is minimal, if any. Hope your power returns ahead of schedule. Give Boone some cuddles and make sure he's warm!
Just got the power back. I spent the last hour trying to get my 40 year old Stihl Farm Boss running. It was out in the shed and I had to put it into the car to warm it up. Finally got it to fire up, so now I have to get to work.
That old saw was my father's and is a real workhorse. It is pre-electronics and should last forever. Of course, I am past the point of needing a workhorse saw, but my son will get it when I am gone.

Must admit, I feel bad......, reading your post number 1107 which is not filled with good news, and I am laughing my a$$ off at "well" being the replacement "so"! Superb.
Great getting the Stihl fired up to take care of that fallen tree. That'll make a months worth of wood burner logs no doubt.
