  • FOUR HOURS?!! Holy shit. Those guys must've been going at it. That is tremendous work.

Can I ask......, were they like a couple of blokes my buddy hired down in Port Seton to build a concrete partition wall in a house??
    Maybe 20ft long, 9ft high.
On arrival, my buddy asked if they wanted a bacon roll and coffee prior to starting. They both declined and one said, "we got breakfast here." Couple speed tabs!
Guys were Road Runner / Coyote speed and had the wall done in a few hours

When was the last time major work was done on that kitchen? Looks 80s.

Yep. 1986 or so. Mother in Law had the cabinets painted, papered the walls and had the floor done.

I put a used stove and range hood in a few years ago. I replaced the original 1960s era stove. It was the same color as that metal backsplash behind the stove. Hideous. Ha!

We are going with a coastal blue on the cabinets, the same color that we used on the beadboard in our rental house. You can see that I put a little on the cabinet doors to get an idea of what it might look like. I'm not sure what color for the beadboard yet. I'll get a feel for it when the cabinets are in and come up with a color. The nice thing about going with beadboard rather the tile is that all it takes is some paint to change the look.

I'll put the beadboard over the wall on the sink side as well as the other side. Maybe beadboard and a chair rail in the breakfast nook?
      Not sure.

The beadboard backsplash color is what we will have on the cabinets

      • That floor would've been the tilers pride & joy back in the 80s and it looked a great job. And knowing exactly how difficult it is to lift a tiles from a solid floor, those guys did a great job in that time. And if they took all the debris away as well ---->> that 500 bucks was the deal of the century.

Picture above looks great as well........, and i've only ever seen a hood / light above a cooker? Is that a microwave? Never witnessed that over here. Doesn't moisture & heat from steam affect that?

Yeah that is a microwave. It has a fan and is vented to the outside. It is pretty common over here, although I have read that it is going out of style. I don't really care because it is so practical. We bought a slimmer microwave that is about the size of a normal range hood for our kitchen. With so little counter space it will make a huge difference for us.

You are right. The floor was a solid job. The tilers did it right.

The guys who removed it hauled everything off and cleaned up. It was worth every penny. The same guys will be installing the new flooring.

This is the microwave we bought

          • That picture is confusing the crap outta me! The underside of that microwave looks like a regular cooker hood (with light & couple of filters) ......, is that manufactured as a microwave / cooker hood. Apologies for the confusion. Nice appliance though.

I'm guessing the hexagonal mosaics are just there as its a random pic of the microwave you bought?

Mosaics are a strange thing aren't they? Especially coloured or different shaped like those hexs. For me they're a novelty, for few a week tops. (Like in a holiday hotel or something.) But in your own house? We had a checked royal blue / white mosaic in our bathroom. Lasted about 4 months. Said to the Mrs, "I can't look at that shit any longer, can we change it?" "It was your fickin idea!"
            "I know. And AGAIN---->> I was wrong!"

She must have been giving you shit and grinning for many a day after that. Probably still is???
