  • Love it so far, CG! Can't wait to see the final outcome!!

We are having our house re-sided starting late next week. Going from 60s white (closer to dingy grey) aluminum to midnight blue vinyl. It doesn't seem like the best idea to start a project like this in March in Michigan, but what do I know?

That sounds like it will really look nice, Deb. Hopefully they'll have good weather to get the job done.

      Need to see some pictures!

      • OK, boys and girls and the rest of you fucking fucks.

I got the tile work done, the range hood installed and am ready to cut the counter top to mount the sink. It took me a while to get the electrical outlets sorted out, changed out where needed and covered back up. The wiring in this house is a mess but I think I cleaned up most of the shady looking stuff and cleaned up the rats' nest of wires that were in a couple of different outlet boxes. I only got zapped once when I forgot to turn a breaker off after checking a circuit. It was minor yah-aa-aaa moment. Ha!

When I get the sink mounted, faucet installed and plumbing finished, I'll only have some touch ups and clean ups to do in the kitchen

        Here is where I am.

        • Looking superb. Don't know what those hoods are like to install over there......, but installed ONE in my life ----- >> never again. Absolute pain in the hoop. (To steal what I heard my son say the other day when describing his niece (my grandaughter) as she whinged & moaned for hours!)

That piece of counter-top there, I assume that is not where the sink is going? Assuming this as it looks like a drawer is there. Is that a false front and the sink IS going there? Or is it going on the other side of the kitchen? And are you cutting that top yourself?

Re zapped? Just not good at all is it? Been zapped maybe 4 times in my life. One was DC voltage from a boiler fan. (furnace) and fk me! NOT good.

          • Yeah, the sink goes under the window and yes, I am going to cut the hole myself. New sink came with a template, I have a fine tooth jigsaw blade and I'll tape it up so the laminate doesn't split. It is probably not a hard job, but it scares the shit out of me. Ha! It will probably take me longer to get my nerve up to make the cut than to actually cut it...

The "drawer" under the sink swings out and down (pivots on the bottom) there is a tray that mounts inside to hold crap and a slide to limit the movement. I'll have to check the clearance when I get the sink mounted. If there is not enough room, I'll just make it a false front.

The house we live in is just north of the gap between the Attraction and Transit tabs

Right now we are keeping the same footprint. If I had the time and money, I would take out the closets and wall that have the louvered doors and open the kitchen to the living room, but priority is getting it fixed up and rented so she has some $$ coming in. She had it rented to three different tenants for about 20 years straight and very little maintenance was done on it so am playing catch up. She kept the rent at 1990 levels and was only getting $900 a month for it. That barely covered the taxes and insurance. When I get done, we'll easily get $2500

Yep. I will obsess over it for quite awhile before I actually start cutting. Measure and remeasure, sit down and think about it and measure a couple more times.

                    • So that counter is a laminate covered one? I have cut sink holes in that kind of material twice with a jig saw (two sinks in the same bathroom). It's not too bad.

I have a project with some re-purposed used solid surface counter tops I am hoping to use. Looking into methods to seam two pieces of it together. Professionals use a proprietary paste. I have been researching some DIY-er methods using epoxy mixes with 'sawdust' of the material for color matching. It's nothing I want to spend money on, but wondering what kind of results I can get.

                      Boobies.

                        • I think Dpatnod is telling you to stop being a pansy and just cut the damn thing. If I’m reading that correctly.

                            Yep. And he is right.

It really should be pretty straight forward, but if I fuck it up, I'll have to replace the counter top. That wouldn't be a big deal. That piece was a little over 100 bucks, but I'm not sure I could get it out without damaging the tile.

I'm on my way to get it done now.

Deborah, not at all and thanks for asking. He had the bloody massive tumour removed in November. Size of a tennis ball. 🤦‍♂️ Was malignant. Surgeon Paul Brennan (genius) removed it all. They’re not allowed to say “100%”, but according to before & after scans, he said its all out of there.,
He had radiotherapy , thats done now and is now on 6 months of chemo. So its really a waiting game on seeing if there is any regrowth.
There are success stories out there with people who’ve had a stage worse cancer. Logan Sneed, Dave Bolton etc etc …… people who are living life after this after changing diets etc. All very uplifting. We think he’s still in slight denial as he gets quite angry at times (never was an angry dude) but hopefully he can get back to his usual
self when future positive scans are done. Fingers crossed & praying hands.
                              🤞🙏
