Another milestone among a dwindling list Mary and I went to see the movie One Life at the Penn theater about Nicholas Winton saving all those kids out of Prague in WW2. Quite the tear jerker that had me fighting back tears while Mary was a blubbery mess. She said a few really loud scenes bothered her a bit but she got through it. First time in a movie theater since before her fall. She is hosting a baby shower in the community room at church in a few weeks which will be a real test with all the people talking and her interacting. If she can handle that it might be time to try the main service at church."Your division isn't going through Green Bay it's going through Detroit for the next five years" - Rex Ryan

This is truth. BTW, I ordered the cabinets for my laundry room today from Home Depot. Should be here next week.

I got the cabinets in the laundry room hung this morning. I put up a ledger board and then Mrs CGVT held them in place while I secured them to the wall.
Somehow, we are still married.

I probably shared this before, but it bears repeating. My parents got divorced in the late 70s after wallpapering a small bathroom together. Glad you and the Mrs. survived another project!

As Marko69 would call him, Young Jack is home from school. He had his wisdom teeth pulled Wednesday. I've been waiting on him since then, but he is recovering pretty fast.
He doesn't know it yet, but as soon as he can swing a hammer his skinny ass is helping me replace the deck at our rental house. Ha!I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

They had to cut out all 4 of my wisdom teeth and gave me liquid Tylenol with codeine elixir. Yeah that was 3 days of happy happy land.Last edited by edindetroit; July 22, 2024, 03:27 PM."Your division isn't going through Green Bay it's going through Detroit for the next five years" - Rex Ryan

Young Jack got a little infection that has slowed his recovery. He'll be fine, but while I've been waiting for him to get better I decided I'd better get started on the deck.
This is my first physically demanding project since my stroke and I've discovered that I am, I don't know, limited. I have to dodder along rather than just getting after it. Moving slower, more breaks.
It took me a couple/three hours on two days to get the boards off. I bought a Deck Demon tool to take up the boards and it is fantastic.
It is a long pry bar with two prongs. You set the bar on the joist, put the prongs under the board and lean on it a bit. The board pops right off. When I re-did that big assed deck in Alabama I did it with a hammer and a crow bar. I should have bought one of these years ago. If you are going to remove board from an old deck, it is worth every penny-less than $100
10 years ago, I would have been done with this little deck in about an hour with this tool.
Anyway, here are a few pictures
