I remember thinking "I can't have gout. Gout is an old, fat man's disease." Then I looked in the mirror......Dammit!

People that have never had gout cannot fathom the pain. For me, it was so bad that I couldn't sleep. Having a bed sheet touch it was excruciating. Hell, I think it hurt when a breeze hit my foot.

        Fuck that fucking gout.
Ya Gout really sucks. So glad it is gone. That first attack was horrendous. I had to stop and get gas. I couldn't stand. Some nice gentleman pumped it for me. When I got home I had to crawl into the house. I was downing Ibuprofen liken chicklets.

          • That is absolute fucking quality 👌👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

            Two things:

            1. The opposite side of the kitchen from the sink? The counter worktop? Did you do the mitre join at the “L” bend yourself?? That looks a proper quality piece of work.

And 2. For YEARS, i’ve always had it in my head that jazz is shyte! But is that music jazz? I fucking love jazz now!

            • I bought the counter tops off the shelf at Lowe's. They have an assortment of lengths and ready made mitre cut pieces in a variety of colors/designs. I chose this design because it was the only thing that they had in stock that had the proper cuts and I didn't want to take a chance on ordering anything. The back wall was an 8' piece. I only needed a 6' piece but they didn't have one in stock. I bought a damaged 8' for $60 (regular price $220) so I saved a lot of money, but I had to fix it. I joined the pieces together myself, but made some mistakes. It doesn't line up as well as it should and the seam shows more than it should. I also cracked some laminate in the back corner. I patched it and smoothed it with clear epoxy. It is not perfect, but it will do.

I did the math last night and the total cost for the project was just over $2300. The biggest expenses were the new dishwasher ($525), sink and faucet ($300) and the counter tops ($550). The tile cost about $150, the used stove was $275 and the range hood was a little over $100. Those damn under counter and cabinet top lights were expensive. The lights and assorted electric bullshit added another 150 or so.

Overall it came out pretty well and I save the mother-in-law at least 10k, so I pretty happy with it.

I am finishing stuff up out side and the windows should be here next week. If all goes as planned we should have it rented out on April first

              • Well done, CG! What a nice transformation!! Your mother-in-law should be thrilled!

Our siding job is about 80% done. It's a pretty dramatic change, going from dingy white to midnight blue. I will post some pictures once there's a proper "after" shot.

Are you tackling the windows as well? Or contractors? If the latter, hopefully first thing out their van is a dustsheet for that new sink / faucet to be sheeted over.

                  • Yes, contractors. There is a window above the bathtub. I am more worried about that, but I save the cardboard that I lined it with when I did the tile

                    • Our siding job wrapped up on Friday. We are really happy with it! But ANYTHING is better than the old siding that used to be there.

                          • How long did you live in the house with the mismatched white on white look? As a slightly OCD person (I’m the guy that will straighten pictures hanging on the wall at other people’s houses) that would have driven me nuts.

Blue looks sharp. And easy to identify your house!

Haha, we bought the house about a year ago. There used to be a tree next to the house that apparently damaged some of the siding (it was removed right before they put it up for sale). I tried not to see the siding mismatches, knowing we'd replace it soon.
