  • I doubt they go after Bregman. I haven't seen anything that says they are going after anybody. To be generous of the Chris Ilitch ownership, it seems like he would go after one big ticket item. Right now that is Javy Baez. Theoretically if they went after another big ticket item, they had better make it count and I think $200 million for Bregman is not wise.

Let's see how it plays out, last season their big expenditures were Kenta Maeda, Jack Flaherty, Mark Canha, Shelby Miller and Gio Urshela. By this time last year, 4 of those guys were already acquired.

Can they just find a right hand hitting third baseman? That would be sufficient even if were underwhelming.

    • I wouldn't want Bregman @200 million or at 6 years. He has medium power, his walk rate was a career worst.

The Tigers at various points this off-season have been connected to Bregman, Kim, Flaherty, Cobb and a few others.

          • Expressing interest is nothing, have they contacted and offered contracts. You just posted a bunch of nothing burgers fantasies.

            • Goldschmidt only signed a 1 year 15M deal....They could have had him for what they paid for Cobb, but I guess they want to really see if Tork can come back to form.

              • They probably had interest in him though!

You are moving goalposts here. Before you said there were no credible reports. I would say that those reporting interest are certainly credible.

Harris did say that Keith and J Henry-Malloy would be taking reps at 1b in ST. I found that very interesting. Malloy in particular is a guy they are trying to find ways into the lineup.

Tork coming back from Toledo projected out like 24 bombs and 76 rbi with like a 780 OPS. Granted that was two weeks on fire then struggling, but that might be who he is. A guy that gives length in the bottom third of the lineup but is very streaky.

And while Cobb is not a guy that thrills me (I see him as a good 4SP), SP was a bigger need and had a lot more depth in FA(and still does). I still think the Tigers need a #2 in the rotation.

                    • Detroit Tigers infielder Gleyber Torres hit .257 with 15 home runs, 65 walks and 136 strikeouts in 154 games for the New York Yankees in 2024.

                      • Torres has been speculated as a Tiger target for a long time. Let's see the terms but the report said he would play 2nd base. They have a bunch of second baseman types. He has played SS. Maybe they are trading Tork and putting Keith on 1B.

                        • 1 year $15 million is being reported for Torres

                          • Maybe Ilitch doesnt want to get stuck with long term FA contracts like javy Baez anymore? He should have been released last year but I dont think the owner wants to eat the contract. They probably even regret the 2 year deal they gave Maeda last year.....I guess we will find out if Ilitch will really pay Skubal 400+M someday.

                            • So Torres at 2B, Keith at 1B. Like it.

                              • They still need a third baseman, I'm not sure Keith is much better at first then Tork.
