  • I wouldn't bet against them. We've been just fine vs CLE this year too. Can't wait!

    • What a game to clinch the series yesterday. My only concern was Hinch's gamble to put Jobe in to attempt to close it out. I thought for sure we were going to give it up, luckily it did not cost the game.

Outside of hitting the batter on his first pitch, his outing wasn’t that bad.

        1) hit batsman
        2) Soft pop-up to shallow center
        3) a really good bunt
        4) An error on Tork’s throw to home
        5) a sacrifice foul pop-up to shallow right

I’ve seen worse from more seasoned pitchers. He should be fine going forward

        • Jobe wasn't put in to close the game, he put him in to face 5 batters which he did. The results were worse than he pitched. Lot of soft stuff hit against him that found open holes. The hit batsman was a terrible start. The defense didn't do him any favors either, Rogers should have had that force at home and Vierling somehow was too nonchalant on the "sac fly".

Jobe did technically blow it, luckily it didn't cost us. Good learning experience that should help vs CLE.

          • Putting Jobe in the 7th with a 1-0 lead in a series clinching game?
Hinch: "welcome to the big leagues kid - be aggressive and attack!!!"
            Jobe: hits first batter.
Hinch: "ummm, not that aggressive... BTW, ain't this shit fun?"

            • When he put Jobe in I thought oh boy and when the first 2 reached base I said why would he do this?
But I settled my old ass down and said Hinch wants to win but he’s also playing the long game.
He had enough confidence in his team to win game 3 if that ended up the results.
Plus Jobe would be the better pitcher no matter what happened. He showed confidence in him now and would benefit him later in playoffs or next year

              • Didn't know Hinch had a Psychology degree.
That kinda explains why he's putting everyone in every situation he can.

I think the most surprising thing to me in last nights game was Houston leaving Hader in there in the 9th.
He can't win the game - and the best case scenario is Houston salvages Game 2 and they can go back to Hader in Game 3.
Except with his high pitch count (something he isn't used to) - can you even go to him?

                • Part of the issue with bullpen games is you start running out of pitchers especially in a situation where nobody is going bulk innings. Hinch's three best leveraged situation relievers are Holton, Vest and Brieske and they had used Holton and Brieske. Foley is there but his inning the day before was similar if not worse than Jobe's outing. You are trying to hold Guenther to shut down a lefty.in case you need it.

It kind of leaves you with Jobe, Mize or Olson for the 7th. And you need the last two if there is a game 3.

If you have Jobe on the roster you are likely to see him in this type of situation in the playoffs. There's no getting around it and that may have been the argument to keep Shelby Miller on the roster even if he was slumping.

My surprise was going to Pressly in the 8th. They can parade the no blown saves in the playoffs stat but yesterday the Tigers had problems hitting the fastball. I'm sure he was a sight for sore eyes for the Tiger hitters.

                    • The only issue I really had with Jobe coming in then?
It's a 1 run game where neither team has been able to put anything together and with todays game rules - he HAS to face 3 hitters.
Seemed like Game 1 was a better scenario for Jobe to get his "playoff wings".

All that said - in Hinch we trust.
That guy has balls of steel having a guy who clubbed a HR bunting in todays game.
I thought that first gesture was just a token one - then he'd turn him loose.

If they happen to advance past Cleveland, a seven game series would be waiting and at that point you need another guy to be able to throw 3 or 4 innings.

It's also an opportunity to give the guy a taste of playoff baseball while expectations are fairly low, I guess.

                          • The Brewers left that poor closer in there to rot when he was throwing BP. He didn't have it. Hinch would have brought in Beau to face Alonso.

That's terrible. I can't believe a coach worth a shit would say that.
