  • They lose the tie breaker with the Twins, so it's technically 4GB of Minny. We do play KC 3 times though, so that helps with them.

    • I know about the tie breaker but that is harshing the buzz.

Keider Montero a complete game three hit shutout to beat the Rockies 11-0. He faced the minimum amount of batters. 3 dps erased the only baserunners. A complete game under 100 pitches, aka the Maddux.

      MVParker had the leadoff homer.

The other games are not final, but so far no help from the Angels or Yankees, but the O's are beating the Red Sox.

The dream is alive for one more day.

      • Now a game clear of Seattle and Boston. Man, this is good stuff.

        • If they make it in they will definitely will have earned it.
They play the Orioles 6 times and the Royals 3 times.
Other than the Sox last 3 games there are no weak teams in schedule.

            • 7-4 final, they are 20-8 over their last 28. They are 75-1. Tomorrow afternoon is Tarik day as they go for the sweep.

As of now, no help from the Angels. Yanks and Orioles are both tied. Mariners have yet to play.

              • Day game to-day, finish this out and then buckle up - got the O's in the D this weekend...Nice to see Mize getting back into the mix. Hinch was right pulling him when he did, Holton did a great job closing it out.
                Got Kneecaps?

                  • Tigs are probably done. But they can still make it fun with something to look forward to next year.
Hope they do the right thing with Skubal and reward him for his dominant pitching.

                    • It sucks that the last two losses have been on Tarik day, especially both games they were up late. It isn't over yet, but they need a huge finish to end it

                      • Good news Tiger fans. A bullpen game combined for a one hit shutout. Brieske and Hurter were perfect through 7, Hurter gave up a leadoff walk. Hanifee got through the 8th. Holton got the first two in the ninth. Gunnar Henderson hit a triple in the ninth, but Holton struck out the last batter to get the save

Carpenter had the sole run with a first inning solo shot.

Back to three back. Currently, the Reds are up on the Twins 3-1 in the 7th. Yankees are up 5-4 in the 7th on the Red Sox. The Pirates gave them no help, losing to the Royals 8-3.

                        • Too bad they didn’t get no hitter. That would have been 2 in 2 years by bullpen game.
Leyland always said not who ya play but when ya play em.
Orioles are not hitting at the moment.

                            • I kind of thought the perfect game/no hitter was somewhat of a distraction when you are winning 1-0. The win is most important, I've remember a few games in the majors where you go into the ninth with the no hitter and lose the game.

The Orioles have the better record and better team, but the Tigers have been the best team in the AL since 7-1. I've just never seen a coaching staff have some much positive influence on their pitchers. As long as I've been watching baseball, it's very rare that hitting or pitching coaches make that much of a difference. It's very obvious with these three pitching coaches they make a huge difference. Having Meadows in CF and Greene in LF make a huge difference. Also having Sweeney now at SS and Jung at third has helped. The defense has been really good the last two months. They have taken advantage of two of axioms of Bill James

                              10. A great deal of what is perceived as being pitching is in fact defense.
                              15. The platoon differential is real and virtually universal.
