You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

That said, the idea that it can take a decade to do so ignores pretty much all precedent set by actually competent front office personnel in both sports.
Agree with this. At the time I was arguing that they had to continue to spend money because their farm system was such shit. Until you can find productive homegrown players outside of the first round you should never do a full scale rebuild trying to depend on the farm. It doesn't work. It only works if you combine that with spending money.

They are starting to win some games now, hopefully Miguel can continue his hot May.

      • 4-1 in the 5 game Twins series and 9-4 with two postponed in the 15 game Guardians/Twins stretch. They certainly needed that.

        • The division is there for the taking...85 wins might win it maybe even less....

          • No team has won a division in the AL with less than 88 victories in the three division/unbalanced schedule era. Winning it with 85 or less would shocking,

            • Yeah you figure 90+ wins gets you in the conversation. Still think the Tigers are a fringe contender.

They did upgrade the team but they needed a high end bat and starter.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

You've seen both rebuilds (though this one isn't anywhere near finished yet).....

The difference is one is trying to do it in a sustainable way - which takes time when you start with nothing.
The other threw cash at the problem and it still nearly took a decade to become a contender in anything more than a 1-off year.

                • Rebuild? Ha!

Owners: We suck, we're not going to spend any money and we're going to get rich. I know! Let's call it a rebuild.

What are you talking about? Dombrowski threw cash at the problem and had the Tigers in the World Series in four years.

Avila has had seven to "build up the farm" and the Tigers aren't even a .500 team. The only thing "sustainable" in this is idiot rubes like you handwringing over how much cash Chris I. is stuffing in his pocket because you bought his bullshit that the Tigers were losing money.

                    • They take in at least 250 million dollars a year in revenue.

The Tigers even said the rebuild was over, but Fraquar wants 4 more years of pinching pennies and hoping they can eventually produce everyday players.

                      • In year 32 of the Ilitch ownership, the farm system will definitely start producing everyday players on the regular, you gotta trust the process. One thing you should never do is throw money at the problem because every World Series winner is organically created throught the farm system.

The funny thing about the off-season was their big signing was a right handed high strikeout power hitter. They threw money at a type of player that is going to suffer playing 81 games at Comerica. I thought it was better than having to see Zach Short play SS, but that hasn't even panned out. The .540 OPS is just a tad better than Short's 2021.

                        • I don't think it was an accident that their "big signing" happened to be one of the cheapest they could find, though.

The 85 wins was kinda joking but I think this division really stinks...The thing is they get to play each other alot so there are alot of easy wins...Tigers are 11-11 against the division, 11-19 against the rest of the league.....

                            • Really doesn't matter if they back in through a bad division, they won't be serious contenders until they learn to target hitters that fit their ballpark.

                              • I wish them the best in targeting those type of players, they have only been in Comerica 20 years.
