Literally 3B has never been mentioned regarding Tork. So ya, that’s pretty shocking.

Hey, it doesn’t hurt to try. Don’t get me wrong. If he fails there, try him in OF. Most likely he winds up at 1B, though.

He did hit .340 over 30 games on the Cape. The guy can hit. I read a good article where he had the most launch angle at 40 degrees with the elite exit velocity. His hitting coach said they never focus on the launch angle shit, he’s just has that natural swing with maximum loft and EV. Watch his swing. His hands are close to his body. Just a fluid swing. Natural power. He doesn’t sell out for it.

That's my thought ... if it works, you win bigger with the pick. If not, who cares.

This MLB Draft board is a bit different than your typical board. A lot of teams these days value draft models, and this board will be a bit more in alignment with teams who weigh models heavily.

This is a very good article. Read the Tork info.

The problem is COPA. I guess overall you take it, but COPA is where fly ball hitters go to die ... to a degree.

Oh well ... worked for Miggy

“Torkelson has the most batted balls between 2019-20 that have achieved a Launch Angle greater than 40° and an exit velocity greater than 100 MPH”

That’s his natural swing right now.

The one thing I will say regarding Whit and Fraq's thoughts is this ... IF the Tigers wouldn't have taken Tork #1 overall as a strictly 1B ... then yes, they made a mistake. If they would've taken him regardless, then just take him and try whatever

Not a guy with 70 power. Do yourself a favor and do a Youtube search for “Tork Bomb.”

In the end it's all a crapshoot - but you don't take a guy #1 at a position that is low on the spectrum with the premise you will find a way to get value out of them - just to justify the pick. At some point conviction needs to come into play - regardless of position this is the best pick we can make.

Whatever position they envision him as he's going to need to rake - and that is the absolute truth. You don't draft anyone #1 overall and expect otherwise - except the Tigers who thought a Reliever (Matt Anderson) was the answer to their woes......

I know what you mean about the power with this guy. Still don't get why he only hit .337 in college tho. Nick Gonzales hit .399 for his college career. Martin like .375 and way more stayed in the yard

Well, Tork is a 40 runner, so those other guys can leg out more hits.

If Tork maxes out at say 60 contact with 70 power and an above average eye. You are talking about a guy that is like (hitting wise) like a Pete Alonso/Yordan Alvarez type.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

One thing is for sure, his Senior season (what little of it there was) won't shed any light on the issue.
Personally, I learned one thing from Fantasy Baseball (haven't done that in nearly 20 years).

In terms of power production that is literally night and day. Find an East Coast player raking - grab him in a NY minute.
