    • He retired 3 years ago.

      • The Angels came to an agreement with Pujols and he went to the Dodgers and produced. Miggy can’t produce. He’s a wasted roster spot taking development away from a team that’s developing players.

He doesn’t even play every day. It’s a joke. He has zero homers and 4 RBI. Malloy can do that in one game.

        • Malloy should be up getting reps. That’s just reality.

Miggy barely plays, as you noted, so taking him off the roster doesn't open enough PAs to justify bringing Malloy up.

His way to PT is LF (Baddoo is heating up), DH (Haase most days when not Catching....and should be Carpenter when he gets back).or 3b (possible). The problem is his defense at 3b is not even below average.

That is problematic since the Tigers are staying afloat based on good defense and just enough offense.

2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

            • They pay miggy 32 million. It's not as if the farm system has blue chip players that are teaming to come to the majors. It's better off for all these guys to see full time play down there then part tiime up here. Plus, this is suppose to be Miggy's swan song year to send him off to the HoF or whatever. I still like to see him hit and Malloy or whoever isn't going to light the world on fire every 4th game. It is sad though as he's just a shell of what he used to be.

              • Miggy should be exhibit A when it comes to teams giving players huge contracts up to the age of 40 or more.

                • For what? We knew this was going to be the case; that he was going to be a shell of himself at the end of his contract in exchange for a championship push in the short term. No one should have expected differently.

The problem is a certain owner using that contract as a crutch to excuse not paying up to build a competent franchise.

ThIs. It was V Martinez and Miggy with large contracts for old men. We knew he wasn’t going to retire and that he’d be there collecting those checks. And yes I’d be doing the same if I were him

                    He earned it
                    F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

                    • I think we all thought he would at least be Pujois with visions of a big Papi in his late 30's. Unfortunately, far worse than you could imagine. No power at all to go along with sub .200. So sad.

                      • Yep no athlete who doesn’t have nothing to fall back on is going to give up 30 million dollars.
Andrew Luck retired but he was taking a beating every time he played. He also had talent he could use that created a lucrative income outside of football.

                        • Just wait until you see the mega deals the Padres have handed out. They are going to get fucked a few years from now.

                          • Not to mention the eventual Soto mega deal…

I give all sorts of credit to the SD owner I think by net worth he ranks 29th of MLB owners. He took advantage of being the only game in town now and spent money.

If they can sign Soto to a long term deal it is very possible it will still be a positive return that will offset the Xander deal.

                              • You are only fucked if you use the contracts as a crutch to not spend in the future. When teams are taking in over 300 million in revenue, you should be spending a lot of money on contracts. I think people think the owners keep all of the huge profits they make when they are cheap and store the money like Scrooge McDuck so they can spend it when they are "ready to win". The fact is, those owners who are cheap normally just pocket the profits. The Marlins have been doing it for decades.
