  • And??? A good trade is a good trade. Most trades don't move the needle. And those that do are usually short term.

It is extremely rare a trade is made for a guy that impacts a team like Miggy did.

Some trades it's too early to call on (paredes for meadows. Norris for Reese O.).

And sometimes you can make the right call and things not pan out in a trade.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

    • It's the GM's job to make trades that improve the team over the long haul, you will find every excuse for Avila.

Nope. I was not super thrilled with their offseason.

        • Still burns me just a bit how well McClanahan is doing. He fell big in the draft, but there was a time during that college season where both he and Singer were in the conversation with Mize for top pick. Singer has been brutal lately tho

          • Singer just had 12 K and 10 K in back to back games.

              • Ya, I know. Check his splits in July. 5 starts. He’s been lights out.

                • He’s still a two pitch guy, but if he adds a capable 3rd pitch, he can be really good. He competes at an elite level. He’s a dog.

Yep ... but everything you said indicates why they put him in the pen. I guess he's outta there tho

                    • I'm not a fan of a finesse pitcher at 1-1. That was always the problem with Mize

To add insult to injury, along with being a flamethrowing lefty ... McClanahan barely walks anybody

I guess he had already had TJ surgery in college tho. It would've been tough to take him really high

                      • Mize was not a finesse pitcher coming out of Auburn.

                        • Mize may come back throwing more heat post TJ. Who knows how long his elbow was barking.

                          • Nowadays when you pick these pitchers, it can be expected that they can gain a few MPH as they mature. It doesn't always happen and it rarely happened 20-30 years ago. That's the biggest change in the game. Matt Boyd could have been labelled a finesse when they traded for him, but then he gained velocity basically by throwing weighted balls. Mize was a solid pick, but in MLB it doesn't mean it's going to work out. Plus their problem isn't pitching

The Tiger farm system is relative trash, but over the last 20 years they have made pitching a strength. You couldn't say that at the turn of the century, some of the prospects they would promote had no chance, now they have shown the ability to find pitchers. They are garbage developing every day players. 20 years ago pitching was more important, all the advancements have happened on the mound.

The Houston Astros aren't done making moves. Now they're reportedly looking to acquire Detroit Tigers' reliever Gregory Soto.

                              • Hey! Maybe the Tigers will get a handful of prospects that total more than 1 WAR in this deal!
