No talk, only show. I think of 3B it's a combination of range and arm, not just arm. Same with RF - if you got a guy with limited range and a cannon there are only 2 places to put him. C and LF. TBH, I can't stand the though of OF's having limited range.

Not sure I like trying him at 3b. Seems to me that if you are thinking of moving the position then Martin should have been the pick.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

I like trying him at 3B because you always have the 1B option.

You put your best players at the best positions they can handle. Does he have Miggy's arm?

It's going up the defensive spectrum that usually does not happen. You go the other way. And he is going to be a bat first guy. Why take a chance messing with the bat with him moving to a more difficult defensive position.

Agree. This isn't the case of moving a bonafide CF to RF as he ages, then to LF as he ages more.
This is the case of taking the #1 pick in the draft and hoping you can get "value" out of playing him a year or two at 3B?
That is the definition of Insanity.

It's pretty obvious they think he can handle 3B, at least likely enough to go for it. He's played it before. His bat is his bat.

Ya, Lacy has Strasburg legs. Tree trunks.

Tork at 3rd is news to most people. Give it a shot, I guess. Longenhagen had his arm as a 30 in HS, so he doesn’t see it happening. That’s a tough throw from 3rd to 1st. I’m fine with trying him anywhere other than 1st as long as it doesn’t fuck him mentally and interfere with the bat.

The hot corner is not easy to play. One thing that annoys me with Avila is he constantly just ignores defense when drafting offense. Castellanos/Stewart/Tork. You can put Greene there (assuming he doesn’t play CF in MLB.)

Even Paredes is a guy who isn’t projected to be a defender. Being able to put gloves out there does matter.

Maybe it's me, but you draft a 3B you draft a 3B. You draft a hitter, you put him where he's least likely to be a liability and be done with it.
The latter is a helluva wrong reason in today's game to be drafting a guy #1 overall.
I mean seriously, this is and has been an organization that has almost exclusively drafted guys that are 1B/3B/LF/DH caliber - for most of my lifetime. To draft that kind of guy with the #1 overall pick? Not much out of the realm of WTF than drafting a Closer (Matt Anderson) at #1 overall.

Hey, I probably would've drafted Lacy ... but they needed a bat.

I'm not too worried about it. They drafted him for his bat. They'll try him at 3B which he's played before. If it works, great. If not, he goes to 1B. Whoopty-do

They didn't draft him for his defense at 3B OBVIOUSLY

Basically, they said we can't pass on this bat, we'll try him at third if it doesn't work he'll move back over

Agreed. When I heard him moving from 1b to 3b after being picked #1 overall. I had a flashback to Eric Munson (not saying Tork is going to be Munson) changing positions after being drafted.

My only concern with Tork is the same as before being drafted. Why only. 337 in college if he's supposed to be a great hitter, and with so many leaving the yard?

My guess is that he tries to lift everything, whereas you see a guy like Martin hitting line drives into gaps. That's gotta be a concern in COPA. Tork's BABIP wasn't that hot at ASU, and he'll have a lot tougher time clearing the COPA fences
