  • Go Tigers!
We love our Tigers despite the product on the field not being ideal in recent times. Baseball loyalty. Again, 2006 Tigers are one of my favorite sports teams in my lifetime due to how magical it was.

On August 17th, Twins were 70-53. Went 12-25 over the last 37 games to fall out of the playoffs.
Tigers are 31-11 in their last 42 while having 0.2% odds of making the playoffs before this run. Crazy.

    • It's actually fascinating how closely the Tigers and Twins odds aligned.

On August 17th, the Twins had about a 92% chance of making the playoffs. At the same time, the Tigers (who were just starting their late season tear) had climbed up to about 8%.

The two teams mirrored each other pretty much the entire way; with the Tigers increasing chances coming almost directly and entirely from the Twins. Which on one hand makes sense at a certain point, but early on you'd expect that there would be more variables influencing the overall odds.

Is this a thing? Did a quick search on the interwebs and only saw one random comment that did not seem reliable in the least.

        • It might not be. it was in the Blessyouboys write up but maybe they were fooled.

          • The locker room speech was fun. I saw it on the news but I can't find it on YouTube.

            Found it

            • Hard to believe it has been 10 years since Playoffs....as has been said, they beat heavy odds being so far down in July, and you have to credit them for grinding it out and never giving up. It has been a long road. The 2014 team looked like it was at the end of a rope and getting blown out at Baltimore was awful. This team has shown real potential and they have a legit shot to make a run at this thing. Whatever happens - I'm proud to see a winning record and meaningful October baseball. GO TIGERS!

              • The timing of games 1 and 2 is unfortunate. 2pm EST during the very beginning of the month… busy time at work. I wonder if it would be possible to go 6 hours without being spoiled… record the games to watch in the evening … hmmmm… tough task.

AJ Hinch vs his former Astros team. Get our Tigers fired up, Hinch!

                • I don't follow this thread closely, so I apologize if already posted. On August 10th, the odds of the Tigers making the playoffs was 0.2%

                    • Tigers win Game 1, 3-1. But the Astros at least made it interesting.

                      • Game 1 win! Too close for comfort in the 9th. During the regular season Hinch would have left in Holton to start the inning to face Alavarez and then bring in Foley. But I think he may have been saving Holton for tomorrow, maybe to be the opener.

                              • Yep. That's how the Wild Card rounds are. Likely because the costs of sending one game to the other stadium really isn't considered to be worth it, in either cash dollars or logistics.
