  • Fighting Tigs. Another great win

    • We lost the last 2 games Skubal started to the Rockies and A's, make this stretch make sense, lol.

      • Tigers win again. Unfortunately, Twins won too.

        • They won a game they probably had no business winning tonight, 3-1 in 10 innings. Casey Mize had command issues and didn't make it through 5 innings, fortunately due to some great defense the Royals only could get one off of him. The bullpen was great tonight and they finally broke through in the 10th because of MVParker.

Twins win 4-1, so still 1.5 back. But they are now 3 back of the KC Royals. Currently, the Yankees are up 4-1 on the Mariners.

          They are now 79-73.

          • I'm watching the mariners get obliterated by Aaron judge and Juan Soto in Seattle right now ... good for Tigers

            • Very impressive. Yeah, can’t control what the Twins do tonight, but sweeping the Royals means they’re still hanging around + 2 games back of KC. Gotta finish hot.

The unpredictably of MLB playoffs … all you have to do is make it. There are no obvious favorites that you can feel good about like in basketball or college football.

              • To me this team feels similar to when the young Tigers of the 70s were coming up and taking their lumps. But those teams were really good and only in two pennant races prior to 84, which was 81 and 83. They had a really good team from 78 on but you had to win the division. When you have young teams figuring things out it is fun when they start to figure it out.

                • It's kinda sad to consider that if they had just had an average June, this frantic surge at the end of the season wouldn't be necessary.

It still sticks in my craw how utter ass they were that entire month. The numbers really don't encapsulate how much that ruined their season so early on. They were roughly .500 by the start of June, and were something like 10 games under .500 by the end. The offense was averaging something like a little over 2 runs a game. Just absolutely hideous ball.

Kinda like the Red Wings, who had an atrocious mid-season collapse that they couldn't quite make up in the end. Maybe next year both teams will have some more consistency.

                  • Not having Carpenter and Meadows really hurt in June. Meadows couldn't hit for shit prior to being sent down but he was still doing so much for the defense, he was a 0 WAR player with a .100 average. Having Meadows is huge because it gets Riley out of CF. Carpenter is probably their second best hitter.

The June swoon was bad, but the team they have now is different. Some of it really wasn't possible much earlier. The addition of Sweeney and Jung have solidified the shaky infield on the left side. Keith has been better at second and Tork has been a lot better at first. Doing the bullpen games has helped Maeda. They were throwing away games when Maeda was starting.

The way Hinch has managed Brieske and Holton has been eye opening, but it's more of a happy accident.

                      • Meanwhile, Tigers sweep the Royals, now effectively 1.5 games out of the Wild Card.

                        • And the White Sox inch ever closer to blotting out one of the Tigers' most embarrassing stains in history.

                          • Thankfully us fans get a well deserved off day, this last month I've had to deploy every superstitious trick I know, it's exhausting.

                            • Yeah the White Sox would need to go 7-2 to match the 2003 Tigers.

                              • This improbable stretch run is reminding me of the 2007 Rockies.
