This team's batting coaches and minor league bat development has been atrocious for about three decades, and it doesn't look like that has changed in the slightest.
I'm not going to argue on the history of the Tiger farm development of the bats. It has been atrocious. But they do have some young players that should hit with Greene and Tork. Keith raked at every level but it's going to take time to adjust. If he is hitting a .571 OPS in June they are fucked offensively. If Riley Greene is battling.610 OPS in June, they are fucked. Their offense is not going to be league average, they are relying on pitching, defense and base running. So far that has been good.

Random newbies like klondike might not think cold weather represses the offense, but it's a real thing! April is the lowest offensive month for scoring. Just go to the Google machine and do your own research. In northern cities April is cold and it's hard to hit in the cold. Detroit is a northern city. I've never heard anyone say, wait until the weather heats up for the pitching.

Hmmmmm. Tell that to the supposed AAA A's. They seem to have no prob scoring this weekend.

      • By the way, if you haven't heard any pitcher say they like warm weather to pitch in then I question your baseball Ingenuity.

        • All you have to do is look up MLB stats in April, it's always the lowest scoring month. Do your own research!

It's been "good," against the and White Sox and Mets, I suppose.

Will it be enough against the Twins and Guardians and Rays and Orioles? Color me extremely skeptical. They just had a three-game homestand against one of the worst teams in the league, lost two of them and scored a total of six runs in the series. That's never going to cut it against anyone, whether its in April, June, or August.

            • Well yeah you ar describing an average team. The Vegas total was 80.5 and those teams do better against bad teams and struggle against good teams. They are probably going to be in the bottom 5 of runs scored and their hole is top 5 in runs prevention.

The A's are not a good team by any stretch of the imagination. But they are going to win series and pitch good games over the season.

The team is 6-3. They are a fringe contender for the WC and division. The offense is young.

                • Currently the Tigers are sitting 4th in MLB in run prevention and 26th in runs scored. The latter better improve if they have designs on a .500 record.

                  • Today's 8th inning saved the weekend. 15 games in they still have good base running, good defense and bad hitting. The first two generally hasn't happened. Yesterday, the defense let them down in the first game probably for the first time this year. Today in the 8th inning Minnesota's defense let them down

5th in run prevention and 24th off in runs scored. It's still a hard way to survive.

I hope that the Tigers can learn to finally draft some excellent hitters.

Miggy (in his prime) was a great theft from the Marlins courtesy of former GM Dave Dombrowski, but he's retired now, so what good hitters are in the Tigers' pipeline right now?

Yes, it is. It also requires a manager to be really on top of things and squeeze every ounce out of guys. Fortunately, AJ Hunch is capable of that. I think the offense will wake up hopefully sooner than later. In the meantime, enjoying the 9-6 start.

Colt is a good hitter. In the pipeline?

Toledo (AAA): Jace Jung 2b, Justyn Henry-Malloy Hitter, OF Justice Bigbe?

Jung is will be up sometime this year. He is the future 3b for the Tigers. JHM can flat out hit it is his defense that is holding him back. Bigbe rise through the ranks draws comparisons to Kerry Carpenter.

                          Erie (AA): Hao-Yu Lee 2b

An interesting enough guy. I don't think we see him at all this year. He probably is a bench player in the majors but is a natural 2b.

West Michigan (A+): Max Anderson 2b

Saw him play yesterday in Game 2 of the Whitecaps DH. He has a very good idea what to do at the plate. Quick swing. The ball sounds different coming off his bat. Showed some in game opposite field power (both went foul) Scouts see him as a bat first IF (he played the corners at Nebraska). Draws comparisons to Ty France and Max Muncy (the Dodgers one)

                          Lakeland: Max Clark OF

The #1 pick AND top prospect for the Tigers. Considered a top 15-20 prospect in all MLB. He has 4 plus to plus plus tools. The only question is if he will have doubles or true home run power. If he does get that home run power you might be looking at almost peak Eric Davis levels of impact. Kevin McGonigle has a very advanced approach for a HS (was their second pick last year). He currently is a SS.

Other guys that could have big leap if they can correct one thing:

Dillion Dingler ( C, Toledo), Izaac Pacheco (3b, West Michigan), Robert Campos (of, West Michigan), Peyton Graham (SS, West Michigan): All of them struggle to make consistent contact and all of them but Graham have issues controlling the strike zone (though tbf a lot of A ball players have this issue),

Carpenter has been a good find. Everyone thinks Colt Keith is going to rake, but he is currently adjusting to MLB pitching. Jace Jung is a good prospect. That's about it for now. The thing about the organization focusing on defense and pitching is it isn't going to be full of big hitters who can't field.

Cabrera wasn't drafted and a franchise could go a 100 years and never draft a hitting prospect like him. A more realistic goal is trying to produce more Curtis Granderson level players. The franchise as always needs to get better in the Caribbean. It's been dry well for them as long as the Caribbean has produced players and that isn't going to be solved in the short term. It's less about the drafting and international signings and more about player development. So far the Harris front office has proven very good in improving the player development in pitching. That's the easier lift, revamping the farm to improve the hitting is harder.
