  • Young pretty much sucks, especially when factoring in the hype.

    • Chase Young has a new team, but he's going to have a hurdle to clear before getting ready to play the 2024 season.

Well that’ll definitely keep you off the Lions radar for sure. Our leadership know what they want

        • The more I see it, professional sports should have never got in bed with gambling. You’ve got coaches and players getting threats to do things a certain way, refs being accused of improper officiating and people in the sports themselves funneling money and getting caught that will make the leagues lose authenticity.

            • The problem is the sports leagues have to deal with gambling now in a way they didn't have to prior to the Supreme Court ruling. It's a lot like the NIL issue in college. In both instances the SCOTUS said that the federal ban on gambling was illegal and a ban on paying college players was illegal.

I don't gamble but I like the ability to be able to gamble. But the implementation is not what I expected, the endless gambling commercials is not what I expected. The leagues see a way to make cash. Both things are something that looks so elemental in hindsight.

              • NIL is a major f’up too but what makes it worse is the unlimited transfers. The highly recruited OL from Bama transferred to Iowa a month ago and just transferred back to Bama. This is getting insane

These kids aren’t being held accountable for their decisions. They can just do whatever they want

                • The unlimited transfers are bad as well, but it's another issue where the colleges run into issues with the courts. They are limited in how they put the genie back in the bottle.

Exactly. When Harbaugh was advocating for this all I could think is how much he was screwing himself over.

I’m glad the kids are getting something financial out of all this. Not everyone will end up in the pros but this is out of hand. They should have somehow capped their benefits and went about this smartly

                    • The NCAA opened themselves up for this by punishing schools and the athletes who would make a few dollars in a summer job or by helping out and getting paid pennies in appearances, etc

                      • That is true, but I'm not sure if the NCAA played it differently that it would have made a difference. Ultimately what they were doing all along was in violation of anti-trust law. The only real way for there to be limits to NIL benefits is for there to be some kind of union for the universities to collectively bargain with, but that is a nonstarter in my opinion.

                        • Yeah a college sports union is about 10-15 years out./

                          • It’s not football, but the worst thing that could happen to MLB (and other sports really) is if they ever found out that Ohtani funneled money through his handlers for gambling. It’s the cardinal sin of baseball.

                            • Apparently, Sneed is on his way to the Titans for a swap of third round picks in 2025 and a seventh in 2024.

                              • And they only gave him 16 mil a year? That’s a helluva deal if Sneed is that good.
