I wouldnt write off the Bears too quickly....Look what the Texans did with rookie CJ Stroud last year.....Even so, with half a dozen teams at least needing QBs every year, you'd think the Bears would have got more than a 6th rounder for Fields.

I wouldn't write the Bears off, they have a good defense and good offensive weapons. But I wouldn't use Stroud to make any point. Stroud did great for a rookie, but Stroud didn't have to play in Chicago. Caleb Williams may be the next Patrick Mahomes, but the Bears pride themselves on being QB killers.

I admit, while I loved Sewell and thought he or Chase would be awesome, I think i wavered a bit and maybe even said I might have taken Fields if I was picking. Glad I wasn’t.

I recall being big into drafting Sewell with Fields as a secondary option at #7. Sewell was a no brainer elite prospect at a premium position as indicated by the 2021 thread:

If the Bears OLine turns out fine, Caleb Williams will be walking into a favorable situation… unlike several high draft pick QBs. F the Bears, but if I was Ryan Pace… totally draft the best OLineman at pick #9. Such as Taliese Fuaga.

Fuckin A. Holmes had a vision and executed it with precision. The only thing i disagreed with his first year was not giving Goff better WRs to start season 1.

Great deal by Pittsburgh. No wonder they have a winning franchise. A mid round pick for a great talent. I wouldn't give up on Fields becoming a great passer. Never had the luxury of sitting and learning how fast the NFL is like Mahomes and Brady etc. had. I just remember his days in college and blows my mind how his arm is behind a bit compared to a few other flashes like Watson (was)and Stroud last year.

There's some disheartening stories of Bears fan's Fields loss and regret. He left quite a devoted and divided legacy.

Sitting behind a vet is the best chance he has. After Dalton got hurt the only real option the Bears had was to try and force him to throw from the pocket, make mistakes and learn. They did try some but kept shying away from it. I don't think Fields was ever receptive to it. Now he just gets to focus on learning without the temptation to just revert to hero ball every sunday while nothing sticks.

There's a reason only 4 teams inquired about Fields. They're dumb, they should have held onto him and still drafted a rookie QB instead of selling low.

There's no reason for him to be sitting behind Russell Wilson.

Yeah, Wilson is washed. If Fields isn’t starting for them at some point this year that’s not a good sign.. Though Tomlin is somebody who’s slow to change things up with the QB even when it’s obviously not working.

The only reason Fields was traded is the Bears lucked into Carolina's stupidity.

Going to Pitt is good for Fields in one respect in that the Steelers find a way to win games they shouldn't with poor quarterback play. That's been the case for the last 5 years, but part of the reason for the poor quarterback play is they are in the cutting edge of 2009 football theory.

From what I can tell, Eagles wanted Fields as backup for Hurts, but they couldn't agree on a price, so Eagles snapped up Pickett as soon as he was available.

Steelers were the last one standing who still had interest in Fields, so got him cheap. Realistically, no-one is going to pay a steep price for a one-year rental backup. Bears had to make the deal because the drama of having both QBs would have dragged down the season. Too many Bears fans still support Fields

I do wonder if the Bears were more willing to take the L on the deal to Pittsburgh instead of Philly because Pittsburgh is in the AFC.
