Zeke is getting to the end of his career. That knee has been bothering him for a couple of years. He is still a heck of a back, but the wear and tear is catching up with him.

That's why teams should be drafting one at least every 2 years. Their NFL life span is only 3 years

Aaron Rodgers on calling out mistakes publicly: “People in this society have a hard time hearing truth sometimes”

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers met with reports on Wednesday. To little surprise, the dominant subject of conversation came from his public criticism of unnamed teammates for making extensive mental mistakes in games, at a rate of 20 percent. Rodgers, to little surprise, had no regrets for his remarks.

“People in this society have a hard time hearing truth sometimes,” Rodgers said at one point during a 15-minute press conference at his locker.

Rodgers was asked whether it counts as good leadership to take his concerns public, when he could have done it privately.

“I did do it privately,” Rodgers said. “I’m not saying anything [publicly] that I’m not saying to those guys. So, maybe that’s talking about a conversation that’s behind closed doors in public, but the level of accountability is the standard here. Again, I don’t think it should be a problem to any of those guys to hear criticism. We all hear criticism in our own ways, and we’ve all got to be OK with it and take it in and process it. And if it doesn’t fit, then it doesn’t fit. But if it fits, we’ve got to wear it and improve on those certain things.

“I’m not going to be a robot up here. I don’t understand why people have a problem with things that are truthful. You know, I’m calling things the way I see it. If people don’t think I need to air that stuff out, that’s their opinion. But I’m doing what I think is in the best interests of our guys, and I’ve tried a lot of different things from a leadership standpoint this year. And I was relating my personal feelings on the situation. I didn’t call anybody out by name.

“I think we all need to be on the details. And that includes me. If I need to have, you know, one-on-one extra conversations with those guys during the week, then I’m gonna do that. And we have done that to an extent. But, you know, I’m not just putting one or two guys on blast. I’m alerting everybody that this hasn’t been good enough, and we’ve all got to do a little better job. You know, if one of those guys has a problem with it, I’m right here. I’d love to have a conversation. I enjoy those conversations. You know? I enjoy any type of conflict like that, because I know the resolution on the other side’s gonna make us a better unit, better friendship, better cohesion on the field. But nobody’s come to me and said, ‘I’ve got a problem with what you said.’ I think everybody knows, Matt [LaFleur] includes, that everything’s got to take a little uptick, get a little better.”

Rodgers at one point was asked whether he had specific players in mind when he said some should get benched for making constant mental mistakes.

“Not necessarily,” Rodgers said. “I think it’s just, you know, we’ve got to get our best eleven on the field. . . . We can’t have the same double-digit, fifteen-plus mental errors and expect to move the ball efficiently.”

Generally speaking, Rodgers believes his teammates should have thick skin.

“We all should be able to handle criticism,” Rodgers said. “That’s the nature of our job. Everything we do is scrutinized, from myself on down to the young players. And getting used to dealing with that in a positive way is important, whether it’s coming from one of you people, or from me or from [coach] Matt LaFleur. We need to be able to be coachable, all of us.”

So what will it take to eliminate the mistakes?

“Time,” Rodgers said. “You know, we have a schedule. We’re creatures of habit. But when we leave this place, we’ve got to be making sure we’re doing the right thing when we’re home. Some of that’s watching film. Some of that’s studying the plan. Some of that’s studying ourselves. But we’ve got to make sure we’re ready to go every single day we step in the building.”

And there’s the apparent root of the concern. Rodgers thinks guys aren’t going above and beyond the bare minimum in order to make themselves better. It’s an ironic remark, given that Rodgers has done the bare minimum during the past two offseasons. Maybe if he’d attended offseason workouts and/or gathered his teammates for throwing sessions in the down time, they wouldn’t be making mental mistakes now.

Reports: Kamu Grugier-Hill asks for and receives release from Texans

Veteran linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill asked for and will receive his release from Texans, according to multiple reports.

The Texans want to see more of rookie linebacker Christian Harris, their third-round draft choice. He played 38 snaps in his NFL debut Sunday, while Grugier-Hill saw action on only 18.

Grugier-Hill re-signed with the Texans this offseason and has started all five games.

He has 40 tackles and a pass breakup.

In 2021, Grugier-Hill led the team with 108 tackles and added three sacks and an interception.

Eagles send fourth-rounder to Chicago for Robert Quinn, still have six picks in 2023

The Eagles sent a fourth-round draft selection to Chicago for edge rusher Robert Quinn.

Philadelphia still has six selections in the 2023 draft, including two first-rounders, despite trades for Quinn, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, A.J. Brown and Jordan Davis.

The Eagles released second-year defensive end Tarron Jackson to make room for Quinn’s arrival.

Quinn, 32, has one sack and three quarterback hits in seven games after having 18.5 sacks in 2021 that sent him to his third-career Pro Bowl.

“I think it’s another great player on this team,” quarterback Jalen Hurts said, via NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com. “He has a history of being a great defensive end and edge rusher. I think he’ll help us out in a number of ways. Adds a lot of depth. I’m excited to meet him. I’m excited to meet him tomorrow when he comes.”

Robert Quinn helps give Eagles a potentially dominant rotation

The best offensive lines consist of five guys who constantly show up and get it done. The best defensive lines have a revolving door of badasses who can constantly and relentless pressure the opposition.

The Eagles added another such badass today, bringing Robert Quinn to town in a trade with the Bears.

Along with the guy who seat a Chicago single-season record with 18.5 sacks in 2021, the Eagles have Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, Jordan Davis, Tarron Jackson, and Milton Williams.

It’s becoming reminiscent of what the Eagles did in 2017, when their defensive line consisted of Graham, Cox, Chris Long, Beau Allen, Vinny Curry, Tim Jernigan, Derek Barnett, and Destiny Vaeao.

With Quinn now in the mix, the rich get richer. The great get greater. And the Eagles solidify their status as the best team in the NFL.

Yes, Bills fans can credibly argue that their team is better. But the Eagles haven’t lost, yet. Also, the Bills may get a chance in February to show that they’re the better team. If they are.

Report: Gisele Bundchen tells Tom Brady to retire or she’s “gone for good”

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady reportedly has gotten an ultimatum.

According to US Weekly, Brady’s wife, Gisele Bundchen, has informed him that “either he leaves football to spend time with the family or she is gone for good.”

It’s not specified whether he must leave now or next month or after the current year ends. Brady has recently said, more than once, that he won’t be retiring during the 2022 season.

Based on the report, she presumably wants it to happen sooner than later.

“She doesn’t want him to continue to get injured and not be able to enjoy life in the future,” US Weekly reports. “She is doing it for her family.”

She publicly raised such concerns five years ago, in an interview with Charlie Rose.

“I just have to say, as a wife, I’m a little bit — as you know, it’s not the most — let’s say [it’s] an aggressive sport,” she said in May 2017. “Football, like he had a concussion last year. I mean, he has concussions, pretty much, I mean, we don’t talk about [it] but he does have concussions. I don’t think it’s a healthy thing for your body to go through like — you know, to that kind of aggression all the time. That cannot be healthy for you, right? I mean I plan on having him be healthy and do a lot of fun things when we’re like 100, I hope.”

Recent reports have indicated that the couple is living apart, and that they have hired divorce lawyers. Thirteen days ago, Brady attended alone the wedding of Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

Brady’s Buccaneers host the Ravens on Thursday Night Football. A loss would drop Tampa Bay to 3-5 for the season.

Kadarius Toney trade likely doesn’t take Chiefs out of OBJ sweepstakes

The Chiefs have filled their need for a field-stretching speedster at the receiver position, by trading for Kadarius Toney. So will they still be trying to get free-agent receiver Odell Beckham, Jr.?

It’s an apples and oranges move, frankly. Toney is a longer-term play for the Chiefs. OBJ would be more of a short-term move. Once doesn’t exclude the other.

Consider the Toney contract. He’s got $784,431 in remaining base salary in 2022. For 2023, he’s due to make $1.907 million. And for 2024, he gets $2.53 million. The Chiefs then would have the fifth-year option for 2025.

To get Toney and his very affordable contract, the Chiefs gave up a third-round compensatory pick (basically a fourth-round selection) and a sixth-rounder that, given the number of compensatory picks in rounds three, four, and five, essentially is a seventh-round selection. And the Chiefs still have a first-round pick, a second-round pick, a third-round pick, two fourth-round picks, a fifth-round pick, a sixth-round pick, and a seventh-round pick in 2023.

Toney’s skill set matches Tyreek Hill‘s. While Hill is a very rare talent, Toney could be close enough to Hill to make it an incredible outcome for the Chiefs, especially given the financial investment and draft picks surrendered to get Toney.

And maybe the change of scenery will help Toney, who never really clicked in New York. Chiefs coach Andy Reid has a knack for getting through to players with challenging personalities. If Reid can get Toney pointed in the right direction and if he can become with the Chiefs what the Giants thought he would be, it’s a huge win for the Chiefs.

There’s a high ceiling for improvement for Toney. Last year, he had 39 catches in 10 games, for 420 yards and no touchdowns. This year, he has two catches for zero yards in two games.

With the Chiefs in their bye, they have time to get him ready for Week Nine, when the Chiefs host the Titans on Sunday Night Football.

Ravens agree to trade for Roquan Smith

Linebacker Roquan Smith was emotional about the Bears’ decision to trade Robert Quinn last week and he’s now on his way to a new team.

According to multiple reports, the Ravens have agreed to acquire Smith in a trade. The Bears will add 2023 second- and fifth-round picks to the fourth-round selection they got in the Quinn deal.

The NFL’s trade deadline is Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET.

Smith requested a trade this offseason and sat out of practices at training camp before ultimately agreeing to play out the final year of his rookie contract in Chicago. He has started every game for the Bears and has 83 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions on the year.

Smith will join Patrick Queen, Josh Bynes, A.J. Klein, Malik Harrison, Del'Shawn Phillips, and Kristian Welch at linebacker in Baltimore.

it’s a rental with an option to negotiate for a guy everyone knew the bears were going to part with….a 2nd is a lot to give up IMO. If he signs an extension before FA it’s a good deal for the ravens….
