  • Report: Cowboys signing Anthony Barr

The Cowboys have flirted with Anthony Barr for weeks. They now are committing.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that the Cowboys have agreed to terms with the linebacker. The Broncos also showed interest.

Barr spent his first eight seasons with the Vikings after they made him the ninth overall choice in 2014. He started 98 games, though injuries limited him to 13 appearances the past two seasons combined.

He is a four-time Pro Bowler but last made the all-star game in 2018.

The Cowboys needed some quality depth at the position, and they have it with Barr if he can stay healthy. In his career, Barr has 17.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles and 39 tackles for loss.

    • Hollywood Brown arrested for criminal speeding Wednesday morning

Posted by Josh Alper on August 3, 2022, 2:55 PM EDT

      USA Today Sports

Cardinals wide receiver Hollywood Brown was arrested for criminal speeding on Wednesday morning.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety told Arizona Sports 98.7 that Brown was arrested at 7:05 a.m. Arizona law holds that criminal speeding includes traveling at any speed over 85 miles per hour and traveling more than 20 miles per hour over any posted speed limit.

“We are aware of the situation regarding Hollywood Brown and have reported it to the NFL office as required. We will comment further as appropriate,” the Cardinals said in a statement.

The arrest came a day after Brown was returned to the active roster. He had been on the non-football injury list because of a hamstring injury.

        • The news just continues trend downward for Stafford and the Rams: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ow-tendinitis/

Again…I’m not rooting for a Stafford injury-year, but I’m following the situation closely. This could be the last solid that Stafford does for the lions.

                • I thought it’s the team that loses in the Super Bowl usually slumps in the following season…

This Stafford elbow thing is suspicious. Does give me tommy John surgery vibes, but who knows. Seemed like Stafford was dealing with nagging injuries all of last season.

My only other thought here is it makes me a little nervous from a fantasy football perspective. Cooper Kupp being a dynasty keeper of mine. Might have to trade Kupp early in the season if this Stafford thing is something to worry about.

                    • Those statements are about tampering. I just skimmed but where does it say they were losing on purpose?

                      • They weren’t punished for tanking because none technically occurred…..and somewhere in the report they praise Flores for ensuring it didn’t happen.

So then I was basically correct.

Nobody said that Flores tanked. The allegation is that Ross ordered him to tank. Has that been falsified?

That Buffalo / Houston playoff game was complete insanity. I still can't believe that comeback.

IDK man. I just posted what the NFL sent out.

I get the integrity of the game thing, but at what point? The only way to do it without losing your entire team and coaching staff is to put your "gotta have em" players on IR. Asking players to play less is going to kill their competitiveness going forward.

Ross really mis-read the whole situation and Flores was having no part of it.

                              • NFL wants officials to emphasize illegal contact fouls this season

The NFL often instructs on-field officials to focus on particular points of emphasis ahead of the season and this year’s focus is going to be on illegal contact fouls by defensive players.

A league spokesperson told Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com that they have asked officials to pay closer attention to those fouls. Defensive players are prohibited from contacting receivers more than five yards off the line of scrimmage while the quarterback has the ball and is in the pocket.

The change in focus comes after a sharp drop in illegal contact fouls. There were an average of 97 penalties for illegal contact between 2002 and 2020, but there were only 36 fouls called last season.

The league has made illegal contact fouls a point of emphasis two other times in the last 20 years. Both of those instances saw a sharp rise in the calls, so the early weeks of the regular season should send a hint about if the same thing will happen this time around.
