Speaking of hurting going forward.....
At what point do the saints (and other teams) have to pay for their salary cap sins? They got under the cap this year by essentially adding fake/voidable years to the back of guys' contracts.
Even Davenport, who was on the 5th year of a rookie deal, converted (basically) his whole salary to bonus and then they added 3-4 additional years to the deal that will be voided (they did the same with a bunch of guys).
This bugs me for a couple of reasons...1st. this is obviously an end around the salary cap, pushing $ down the road to a time when there will be a higher cap. 2nd: it seems like they get an additional year out of any deal this way.
The cap is, at least in part, about competitive balance. If this was just kicking the can down the road then I could deal with it.....but it really seems like they're getting an extra year to amortize various cap #s by adding these additional fake/void years.
