Wouldn't be shocked if some of these extra picks the Lions have acquired wind up traded to New Orleans.

Wish Cameron Jordan was a few years younger. He’s the player I would want to trade for if the Saints have a fire sale...
The Lions probably aren’t in “win now mode” in 2022. Probably not worth it to trade for Jordan.
I think the Saints were in a similar situation last year when it comes to cap space. They found a way out of it.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

Yeah, the people they would try to get rid of will be old and expensive. And those are the guys that get cut, not traded. They aren't selling off young players or cheap players, and especially not young cheap players.

Said that without looking to deep into who would actually be players they'd move. Not sure if I'd be in on any of them considering what the Lions need. Definitely Thomas IF the off-field shit wasn't a thing. Lattimore. Either would come with restructuring some of their base salaries/roster bonus into a bonus.

The only players that stick out for me as being worth a trade-
Lattimore- depends how hard they want to steer into the rebuild. If you believe spotrac, they save 24m by trading him with a post June 1st designation. He’s probably the only player worth a higher draft pick.
Davenport- I haven’t been paying close attention to football the past couple of years…but tome Davenport hasn’t lived up to his draft status. That being said…he’s a physical specimen who has logged lots of time as a starter. Last year of rookie deal- Trade and sign….he’d make a solid rotating member of the DL at worst. At best…the kid is still only 25 and given his physical talents could be more. Not sure what held be worth…2nd day pick?
Onyemata- this is a very solid and underrated interior DL. Again…DL rotation
Other than that….a bunch of guys who are going to be cut anyway. One thing to note (especially around a Lattermore trade)…..is that trading the saints ‘22 draft picks makes their cap go up (rookie pool). I think that ‘23 draft picks might be more valuable to them (and so the Rams 1st could be in play).

Onyemata - he is 29, a good player but not a guy you flip real resources for. If he could be had on a Brockers type deal on the cheap, yeah. And his fit in the Lions D isn't great..
Davenport - had a breakout year at DE with 9 sacks in only 11 games. With what they invested in him to go get him in the draft him and Cam Jordan heading towards his mid-30s, he's the future of that defense. Plus the Lions can just pick KT or Hutchinson to fill that role.
Lattimore - that is the one guy that draws some interest but a) he's not going to be cheap - Jalen Ramsey went for 2 firsts and a 4th; and b) if Lattimore is available, he's going to have a lot of teams interested and likely contenders looking for that stud CB to put them over the top. So there would be no bargain hunting here.

I do wonder how much the Lions are going to jump into free agency versus playing the comp pick game. I think it's pretty certain they will at least dip their toes into free agency but they still might be in bargain bin mode. If they are in the latter, signing cap casualties is something to keep an eye on. I doubt it's like last year, where circumstances dictated the full bore comp pick game was the play.

Gotta disagree that they'd build around Davenport....they'd have to pay a FA contract next year to keep him. They don't/won't have the money...the only way they make it from a cap perspective this year is going to be to push a ton of dead-money into '23. They're over the cap by like 35%.....it's not a one year fix. Any player that can save them more than 5m to move has a target on their back....cutting a bunch of 1-2 mill py guys doesn't do it for them
On the other side of that....a team has to have 3-4 players they can hang banners on the outside of their stadium.
Looking at the cap situation on that team....things have been reorganized and pushed back so much, the bottom is finally falling out on that ponzi.

Maybe, my guess is Saints jump through hoops to reboot with a few of their key young players as they hit their prime. The coach hire probably says a lot about what direction they go. If it's Dennis Allen, then they probably try to reboot and get back to the playoffs quickly rather than tear it all down.
Regardless, the Lions are primed to take a Davenport-like player in the draft at a considerably more favorable salary over the next several years.
