    • 2022 NFL Head Coaching Search Tracker

January 12th, 2022 at 1:21pm CST by Zachary Links

Last year, seven NFL teams opted to make a head coaching change. With the Giants firing Joe Judge late Tuesday afternoon, there are now seven full-time vacancies available this year.

Listed below are the head coaching candidates that have been linked to each of the teams with vacancies, along with their current status. If and when other teams decide to make head coaching changes, they’ll be added to this list. Here is the current breakdown:

      Updated 1-12-21 (1:21pm CT)

      Chicago Bears
      Denver BroncosJacksonville Jaguars
      Las Vegas Raiders
      Miami Dolphins
      Minnesota Vikings

      • Texans could be an opening soon based on David Culley's status. I think Culley deserves another year because that Texans roster had 1 or 2 wins written all over it ... the mess and Watson situation, ugly. Texans won 4 games! Talk that Nick Caserio wants to hire a HC that is "the Patriots way." ... Which, usually doesn't work out with former NE assistants.

Fun to see GM candidates that we talked about a year ago come up with these GM openings. Adam Peters, Ed Dodds, Rick Smith, Louis Riddick, Omar Khan, and Jeff Ireland. No mention of Bob Quinn though despite 2 guys from the Browns front office receiving interest.

        • Culley officially culled. Always seemed like a guy hired to just get them through the year. But hey, at least he can say he was an NFL head coach (and go the NFL coach payday).

          • Shame. Culley will get a job somewhere.

Lions could maybe bring in Culley as a passing game coordinator if Ben Johnson gets the OC job. I liked what Davis Mills did with the Texans this season.

              • Late to the party about this news. I think the Raiders will regret this. All of the mid to late round picks that Mayock hit on. Rumors that Gruden overruled Mayock on some of the weird 1st RD picks. (Ferrell, Jacobs, Ruggs)
I’m still high on Mayock’s draft ability and opinion. At least he will likely be back in the draft media. Good for us.

This makes me happy to have Sheila. Davis doesn't have a clue and is worse then WCF. Really. He is terrible and hasn't a clue. I hope we get him back on air though.

                          • Bruce Arians fined $50,000 for striking Buccaneers player during wild card win over Eagles, per report

Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians was fined $50,000 after making contact with Tampa Bay safety Andrew Adams during the team's wild card win over the Eagles, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Arians slapped Adams' helmet during Tampa Bay's 31-15 win on Sunday.

Arians defended his actions on Monday, saying that was trying to prevent Adams from committing a penalty. Arians apparently thought that Adams was going to try to pull Eagles players off the pile following a muffed punt by Philadelphia wideout Jalen Reagor.

"I've seen enough dumb," Arians said, via the Tampa Bay Times. "You can't pull guys out of out of pile. We just got a big play, great field position and he's trying to pull a guy out of the pile and I was trying to knock him off that guy so he didn't get a penalty."

Arians recently made headlines for his decision to release Antonio Brown during the Buccaneers' late-season win over the New York Jets. Brown, stating his ankle injury, said that he was too injured to enter the game, which led to his release. Arians said Brown alluded to his lack of involvement in the offense as his reasoning for not going back into the game, which led to Arians asking Brown to leave the sideline.

Distractions aside, Arians and the Buccaneers are three wins away from becoming the ninth team in NFL history to win back-to-back Super Bowls and the first since the 2003-04 Patriots. The Bucs will host the Rams this weekend in the NFL divisional round.
