ZACH ERTZTE, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES


Sports Illustrated's Ed Kracz reports the Eagles have talked to Colts and Seahawks about a trade involving TE Zach Ertz.


Kracz added that the Eagles have been looking to trade Ertz for months and the expectation is that they find someone to make a deal with. He also said that the expectation is that Carson Wentz is traded before any move involving Ertz occurs. Ertz pushed for a contract extension prior to the 2020 season but the Eagles didn't play ball. He then posted his worst NFL season in eight years of play. Ertz caught 36 passes for 336 yards and scored just once. All three marks were career lows. Ertz is likely to get a new deal upon being traded but it won't be the massive payday he was looking for before his most recent season. If he's dealt to Indianapolis, it's possible that he is part of a package deal that also involves Wentz, who the Colts are reported to be pursuing.

CARSON WENTZQB, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES


NFL analyst Ron Jaworski reports the Colts have offered "two second-round draft picks" for Carson Wentz.


It's the best offer the Eagles have for Wentz. The Eagles are holding out for a Matthew Stafford type deal, but that's not going to happen. Teams have been unwilling to even offer a late first-round pick for Wentz. The Wentz market has cooled in recent weeks, with Chicago reportedly losing interest. Philly is going to have to come off its asking price to trade Wentz this offseason.

a 26-year old QB, who by all accounts was completely untradeable because of the albatross contract he has attached to him. I pointed out years ago before the rookie cap that the #! pick had been rendered useless and nobody, and I mean nobody wanted it and people scoffed.

The trade activity for those high picks bore that theory out because the trade market was non-existent. Notice with a rookie cap that there have been several trades involving high picks ... though none with Bob Quinn.

People seem to forget how about the money is when discussing players. Stafford is valuable because he's quality material and reasonable price. Watson has value because he's quality, but not as much value as many think because he's not at a reasonable price. He's an expensive piece that will only get more expensive and unless you've planned on that for years you can't afford it.

I said it when the Lions passed on signing Suh. Overpaying a guy, even a great player, and even a QB, can be divisive in the locker room. Guys don't want to give up $$$ because somebody else has more than their share. A single player earning 20% of the teams available funds will not be good for team building.

And the Lions didn’t pass on Suh. They had restructured our top 3 contracts so many times pre rookie salary cap that they were f’ed financially and they couldn’t afford Suh without a franchise tag. Not to mention Suh tricked them into thinking the franchise tag would just piss him off and he wouldn’t negotiate long term. Don’t fool yourself, the Lions wanted Suh back.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports the Steelers, Browns, Bills, Titans, and "approximately a dozen teams" have expressed interest in J.J. Watt.


Watt asked the Texans to release him, and they obliged, making him an unrestricted free agent heading into his age-32 season. It's no surprise that half the league is already lining up to sign him. Watt likely already knows where he plans on signing -- perhaps joining his brothers in Pittsburgh if he's willing to take a big pay cut -- but free agency doesn't open until mid-March. Despite the dip in sack production (5.0), Watt was graded as the No. 7 edge rusher among 124 qualifiers per PFF last season. His 40 tackles were tied for fifth at the position. He can be an asset on a Super Bowl contender for the next two seasons or so.

The biggest problem is the Lions got screwed under the CBA negotiations. The cap went down, if it had gone according to the forecast they could have kept all three. The rookie salary slots help but it isn't the end all be all. Most teams likely to win the Super Bowl are going to have a pricey quarterback.

But Suh knew this franchise was a dumpster fire, he knew it was going to continue to be a dumpster fire, and had started planning his out probably from Day 1 of his rookie contract. His only interest in the Lions was using them to get the sweetest deal possible from someone else. He had no intention of ever playing for the Lions again.

But hey, he was right, and he made the right choice, and that pissed Detroit fans off for the longest time.

I think by the end, even if Suh wanted to play ball the cap number was way too big, it would have been like 40 million at minimum. In his case the franchise tag was too much and he wanted to be a free agent so he played ball like three times to help out the Lions so the franchise tag became a de facto poison pill. But had the cap not gone down they wouldn't have needed to keep on renegotiating those contracts to get wiggle room.

But when you look at the Bucs and how they won, you realize that it didn't matter, they just didn't have enough talent.

yes, pre cap the first pick in the draft was a heavy burden to take on and nobody wanted him. Regarding Suh, I'm saying the Lions passed because they allowed themselves to get outbid. Yes, they wanted him, no they didn't want him for the money he got in Miami.

Former Chargers and Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson was found dead in a Brandon, Florida hotel room on Monday.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Jackson died and that it is investigating the cause of death. Jackson was 38 years old and a release from the Sheriff’s Office said no signs of trauma were found.

Jackson was a 2005 second-round pick by the Chargers and spent seven seasons in San Diego. He made two Pro Bowls and caught 272 passes for 4,754 yards and 37 touchdowns during his time with the team, which included a lengthy contract dispute that kept him out of the first 10 games of the 2010 season.

Jackson signed a five-year deal with the Buccaneers in 2012 and made the Pro Bowl in his first season with his new club. He had 268 catches for 4,326 yards and 20 touchdowns in 63 games for Tampa before finishing the 2016 season on injured reserve. He officially announced his retirement in 2018.

Our condolences go out to Jackson’s family, friends, and loved ones on their loss.
