Chiefs sign Deandre Baker for 2021

Cornerback Deandre Baker didnāt have much time to show the Chiefs what he can do during the 2020 season, but heāll get another chance this season.
Baker signed with the Chiefsā practice squad a few days after armed robbery charges against him were dropped in November. He played seven special teams snaps in Week 15 and then started Week 17 with the Chiefs resting starters. He had five tackles and a sack before breaking his femur.
Despite the injury, the Chiefs signed Baker for the 2021 season on Tuesday. The 2019 Giants first-round pick was released last September after being charged with armed robbery.
āThe injury that he had, it was ugly, but heās gonna be okay,ā Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said last week, via the New York Post. āThe femur was fractured, believe it or not, but it was a clean one and itās gonna heal fine. I kinda like his talent. It was hard to get to know him as a kid in that short of a period of time. I do like his talent. Iām hopeful we can get him back. Iād like to work with him.ā
Tight end Evan Baylis, linebacker Omari Cobb, defensive end Austin Edwards, wide receiver Maurice Ffrench, wide receiver Joe Fortson, defensive end Demone Harris, linebacker Emmanuel Smith, center Darryl Williams, and guard Bryan Witzmann also re-signed with the team after time on the practice squad in 2020.
I'm not opposed to the Lions taking questionable types but I'd steer clear of that madnessF#*K OHIO!!!

I stated it at the beginning of the year in the FF thread. I had Wilson the year prior and at a point he just dropped off a cliff and it never got better. Carroll needs to just let his OC do his job and keep doing his cheerleading thing.Last edited by Futureshock; February 11, 2021, 08:10 AM.Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. Is Jaadam really Bob Quinn? Screw that choir boy crap. No team has ever won with a bunch of them. I want talented players. Even if we may need to tighten a few screws, I think Danny will get them going the right way.Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. Vikings give Riley Reiff $1 million bonus after he just missed one in 2020
Posted by Josh Alper on February 11, 2021, 9:24 AM EST

Vikings left tackle Riley Reiff missed the final game of the 2020 regular season because he was on the COVID-19 reserve list and that absence was a costly one.
Reiff was set to earn a $1 million bonus by playing at least 93.75 percent of the teamās offensive snaps, which meant he needed the team to run no more than 66 offensive plays in Week 17. They ran 74 plays in a 37-35 win over the Lions, so Reiff, who did not miss a snap prior to Week 17, was left just short of the incentive threshold.
The Vikings have found a way to get Reiff that money, however. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the team has reworked Reiffās contract to give him a $1 million signing bonus.
Reiff has started 58 games in his first four years with the Vikings. The 2021 season is the final one on his current contract and heās set to make a base salary of $6.65 million with a $5 million roster bonus due on the third day of the new league year.

Report: Seahawks management not happy with Russell Wilson
Posted by Michael David Smith on February 11, 2021, 4:46 AM EST

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson showed rare candor this week when he went on the Dan Patrick Show and said, among other things, that heās frustrated by getting hit too much and that heās not sure if heās available in a trade. That may have rubbed Seahawks management the wrong way.
Patrick said on his show the day after Wilsonās appearance that he heard from a source that the Seahawks arenāt happy with Wilson for taking his frustrations public.
āA source told me that the Seahawksā management is not happy with Russell Wilson and his camp for taking this to the media,ā Patrick said. āYou wonder if theyāre going to be able to co-exist. . . . The current situation is not sustainable. Thatās what I was told.ā
If Wilson isnāt happy with the Seahawks, and the Seahawks arenāt happy with Wilson, a trade would make a lot of sense. The betting odds have the Raiders and the Cowboys as the most likely destinations for Wilson. There was a time when Wilson looked like heād be the Seahawksā franchise quarterback for many years to come, but they may now be heading for a divorce.

Report: NFL hopes to āfinalize frameworksā of next TV deals before setting 2021 salary cap
Posted by Mike Florio on February 10, 2021, 7:43 PM EST

The NFL may be partially robbing Peter to partially pay Paul.
Thatās the obvious takeaway from a new report, courtesy of CNBCās Jabari Young, that the NFL wants to āfinalize frameworksā of new TV deals before setting the 2021 salary cap.
This implies that the league could be inclined to shift some future earnings toward 2021, potentially bumping up the salary cap. Itās currently expected to land in the range of $180 million per team. Itās possible that, if the money to be earned under the next wave of contracts represents a sufficient increase in revenue, some of that money could be moved around in order to make more money available to all teams in the coming season.
The Monday Night Football package runs through 2021. The rest of the deals apply through 2022.
According to Young, the next wave of contracts is expected to be similar to the current configuration of deals, with FOX and CBS keeping Sunday afternoon packages and NBC retaining Sunday Night Football. Young calls ESPN āthe wildcard,ā with the possibility of adding the Sunday Ticket package to ESPN+ to Monday nights.
The destination of the Thursday night package remains unclear. FOX holds the rights for the next two years. None of the broadcast networks seem to be interested in assuming the package. Amazon could assume the rights, but that would move the game from the larger platform that a three-letter network provides.
Young notes the ESPN could purchase the Thursday rights, moving the games to ABC. ESPN/ABC/Disney would also like to infiltrate the Super Bowl rotation, currently held by FOX, CBS, and NBC.
However it plays out, thereās a strong sense that the pieces soon will be falling into place. Those new deals, worth up to $100 billion and likely extending through the end of the decade, could make it easier to offset the 2020 losses due to the pandemic.

MIKE PETTINECS, CHICAGO BEARS
Bears hired ex-Packers DC Mike Pettine as a senior defensive assistant.
Pettine was let go after the Packers' playoff loss, as Green Bay refused to renew his expiring contract and replaced him with former Rams assistant Joe Barry. 54-year-old Pettine will be an experienced sounding board for fresh DC Sean Desai, who will be calling the defensive plays for the first time in his coaching career after being promoted from safeties coach to replace Chuck Pagano.

A.J. BOUYEDB, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT
Broncos released CB A.J. Bouye.
Owed $13 million in the final year of his deal for 2021, the Broncos now clear over $13.2 million in cap space with the move. In his only season with Denver, Bouye appeared in just seven games due to a shoulder injury, concussion, and six-game suspension, which he still has two games left to serve at the start of next year. Bouye will be 30 years old ahead of next season.

ORLANDO BROWNT, BALTIMORE RAVENS
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Ravens OT Orlando Brown has requested a trade.
This builds off reports last month that Brown only wants to play left tackle. That's unlikely to happen in Baltimore with Ronnie Stanley (ankle) expected back by training camp. It's hard to see the Ravens moving on from Brown with upgrading their line a top priority this offseason. Brown is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The Ravens hold all the leverage.
