Exactly, I’m so used to seeing him escape that kind of pressure and waltz off for a first down or flick a bomb to Hill. Last night he’d spin out of Shaq Barrett’s pursuit straight into JPP or another D-lineman. He was being hunted.

clearly the plan was to give the Chefs 3 seconds or less to make a play. Man up for those 2-4 seconds and not let Mahommes out or extend the play. KC acted like that was going to stop happening at some point last night and it never did. They just kept coming and coming.

        • Aaron Donald: I won’t be satisfied until we win Super Bowl

Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald became a three-time defensive player of the year on Saturday night, but the prize he really wants is one that he has never received in the NFL.

Donald told reporters on Sunday that he appreciates his play being noticed and rewarded, but that he’d rather be playing on Super Bowl Sunday than on a video conference. Donald has played in the game once and he said winning it is the one thing he really wants to accomplish.

“It’s a blessing,” Donald said, via the team’s website. “I always say the same stuff, you know — anytime you’re rewarded for the body of work you put in and people notice that, you’ll be happy about that. You’re accomplishing great things building to a legacy, but never satisfied. I know I still got a lot of work to do, a lot of room for improvement. The ultimate goal is to be holding that trophy up. That’s what we’re chasing, that’s what I’m chasing, that’s what I want to accomplish. And I until I accomplish that, I ain’t going to be satisfied.”

Donald’s comments came before the Buccaneers became the first NFL team to win a Super Bowl in their home stadium. Donald will have a chance to be part of the second team next year as the game will be played at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and sportsbooks list the Rams with 13-1 odds of being the Super Bowl LVI winner.

            • I don't think it was "dirty" Hales, if you look at it, Suh kind of pushes him with his hands. And while his shoulder and head do make contact, I think Suh's hands are where the majority of the contact is. If he had used his head or shoulders there is no way Pattie () finishes the game.

I'm happy for him too. He's never bad mouthed the team or city. As a matter of fact, he's been very complimenting of the city and area.

                      • Report: Tom Brady texted Tyrann Mathieu to apologize for trash talk

Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu and Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady got in each others’ faces during Super Bowl LV, in an exchange that Brady appeared to instigate but Mathieu got penalized for. Afterward, Brady reached out to Mathieu to apologize.

Brady texted Mathieu to say he was sorry for the incident and considers Mathieu a “class act” and a “great leader,” according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.

Mathieu said after the game, “Listen, Tom Brady’s a great quarterback. I never really saw that side of Tom Brady, to be honest. But whatever. No comment. It’s over with. I’m done with it.”

Super Bowl LV was the fourth time Brady and Mathieu have squared off. There have been no previous incidents between the two.

                        • Bruce Arians: Mike Evans has offered to give up money to keep team together

Posted by Mike Florio on February 8, 2021, 12:51 PM EST

                          Getty Images

NFL players routinely restructure contracts to create salary cap space. In most cases, the player gets the same amount of money; cap space is created when base salary becomes signing bonus. In other cases, the team squeezes the player to take less, under a subtle (or not) threat that refusal will result in termination.

Then there’s the rare case of a player who voluntarily gives up money to create cap space.

After Sunday night’s Super Bowl victory, Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians told Peter King of NBCSports.com that receiver Mike Evans already has offered to reduce his compensation for the good of the team.

“Mike Evans is the most unselfish superstar I’ve ever met,” Arians said. “He’s told us to use some of his money if we need to contracts to keep the team together.”

The Buccaneers have a long list of looming free agents, from receiver Chris Godwin to linebacker Shaq Barrett to receiver Antonio Brown to tight end Rob Gronkowski to linebacker Lavonte David to defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Evans is due to earn $12.5 million in 2021. He has a cap number of $16.6 million.

It’s one thing for Evans to make the offer. It’s another for the two sides to reach an acceptable deal.

Players generally should try to get what they can while they can, leaving it for the team to manage the cap. That could be more of a challenge this year, with the cap likely dropping to the range of $180 million. So maybe they’ll take Evans up on his willingness to take less. And maybe they’ll work out a deal.

Evans at a minimum should seek protection against the possibility of having a big season. Maybe, for example, the deal should add incentives that would give Evans some money back, with the cap charge landing in 2022.

Regardless, the cap will be a challenge for plenty of teams in 2021. The Bucs will likely have to do a lot more than get Evans to give up some money to balance things out.

                          • Britt Reid has had surgery since last week’s car crash

Chiefs outside linebackers coach Britt Reid was not at Super Bowl LV because he was in a car crash in Kansas City on Thursday night that sent him and two children to the hospital.

The exact nature of Reid’s injuries are unknown, but Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said on Monday that his son has had surgery since the crash. He added that his condition has improved.

Britt Reid hit two cars that were pulled over on the side of the road and a five-year-old girl suffered serious injuries. A GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $300,000 for her medical care.

“My heart goes out to that young lady,” Andy Reid said, via Nate Taylor of TheAthletic.com. “I’m also a dad, so I get that.”

Reid told police officers that he had two or three drinks before driving on Thursday night and blood was drawn when he was taken to the hospital.

Super Bowl LV drew a higher TV rating in Boston than in Tampa

Plenty of Patriots fans still love to watch Tom Brady.

Via John Ourand of Sports Business Daily, the TV rating in Boston actually surpassed the TV rating in Tampa.

According to Ourand, Boston generated a rating of 57.6, which means that 57.6 percent of all TVs in the market were turned to the game. In Tampa, that number was 52.3.

The 57.6 rating in Boston surpasses the rating generated there for all but one of the Patriots’ Super Bowl appearances. Which is, frankly, an amazing outcome.

So, yes, nearly a year after he left town, Tom Brady still moves the needle in and around Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, the Patriots host the Buccaneers during the 2021 regular season. That game likely will draw a big rating, too.
