  • You’re dealing with 31 teams from the jump. To not deal in your division means that number shrinks to 28. So your eliminating roughly 10% of your market.

    It’s just bad business.

    • How many companies just willfully ignore 10% of their market due to some stupid arbitrary reason?

It's delusional thinking - something that has plague the Lions for ages.
You move the guy because you can't win with him - but you don't want him to beat you.....
The reality is if you lose to HIM, it's because the team he's on is better than yours......

They aren't moving him because they don't think he's elite though. They do think he's Elite. They are trading him because he thinks they are garbage and they'd rather not have someone who doesn't want to be here.

If a team is only a QB away you are absolutely filling their need while you maybe get a good player or two from the draft picks. Draft picks that surely would help them but they are in a position to not need them as much as they need a QB.

For instance the Bears aren't a position to do much at QB with their draft position. Trading to them fixes their problem and you play them twice. Why aid a divisional opponent in finding the final piece of the puzzle when you can get roughly the same value from someone you only play once every 4 years with 2 random games a year as a maybe or a Superbowl in the Colts?

Sure it's different if they offer you a much better deal than the Colts but they will be reluctant to do that for the same reasons you are. Why make it harder to make playoffs than you have to?

            • Add on to that if the Bears jumped in the mix and bid high just to get outbid they just effectively helped a divisional opponent better their haul for nothing.

We disagree. I think if you trade him to CHI, you don't have to fear them any more than you currently do.
This is a rebuild that is going to extend beyond the current Bears defensive unit to stay viable - and in the mean time - you don't expect to be winning in spades anyway.
If the Bears are the trade partner - make it happen.

“I wonder if we woukd be interested in a Goff/Stafford deal if they gave us a godfather offer. Like numerous high picks for numerous years.”

                    .....

“Would you take on two years of Goff during a rebuild knowing you can dump him after 22’? Then draft a guy like Lance for him to sit behind Goff?

You’re not trading for Goff, you would be trading for the giant haul of picks”

Could the Rams bottom out and finish fourth in that division the next two years?
